I would love to say the day of my birth was like one of many in my village. I would love to say that the red sun was smiling in the sky, coloring the savanna with a warm honey glow. That the winds of hope was calmly swaying the coconut trees at the village's borders or that a celebration was hailed as I was shown to the women, that they sung the Song of New Life to me and my mother. But, alas, there was no such thing for me. No, the day that began my life, the day I was brought forth to Mother Earth, the day I was born, it had rained. That's right. Large and angry clouds cried, the winds screamed, people stayed home, in their warm huts, waiting for the storm to end. I was forgotten. All because of the rain.
