Synopsis// she's been closed off for as long as she can remember, mostly when it comes to her family. not because she was ashamed- she was scared. no one would understand, she was sure of it.
veronica lodge didn't let people in. and when they got in, they didn't stay. it was this way with archie andrews: the truest love she'd ever felt.
he wanted to protect her but the last thing she needed was him getting hurt. it was all too real and all too possible. and he couldn't- she loved him too much.
so she left riverdale and the love of her life in a trail of dust. the only way to help him was to hurt herself. to lose the only thing she'd ever needed to rely on.
he refuses to move on, throwing himself into everything that can distract him from her but not fix him. items of hers and pictures of her are everywhere and so is the thought of her.
and then she's back, and he doesn't know if he should be happy or sad or angry or all three.
he just knows they both need to heal.
Sneak Peek// "Do you not understand that it hurt me just as much as it hurt you?" Veronica yelled, tears streaming down at her face at a rapid speed. "That it killed me to leave and watch you move on- that's something I never got to do." her tone was angry and he could hear a brokenness in her voice that she'd always tried to hide. Even from him, it was out of her character to let anyone see that she was anything less than strong.
She had always been the strongest person he knew, maybe things had changed. He swallowed hard, hoping to erase all of the fear he felt.
"How can you move on from something like what we had?" he asks. Archie rarely cries, he can think of a few times.
The day he broke his arm in kindergarten, and the day his mom left are two of the first that come to mind. He knows he cried a lot the day his dad was shot in Pop's, and he also knows he has never cried as much as the day Veronica left town.
But he stands here on the same porch she left him on, the one that she now came back to and he can't help but cry again. Every ounce of pain that he's felt for the last 7 months bubbles up to the surface and he knows it's because she's here and she can make it better, but he won't let her.
His heart is always on his sleeve and she knows it too, knows how naive he is. But she doesn't have it in her to be anything less than unequivocally careful with this boy's feelings because he loves her wholeheartedly and that's rare in her life.
