Chapter 31: Confusion

The three first years walked in a silenced manner. Tsukishima was listening to his headphones and Ayame slowed down for a bit and walked next to Yamaguchi to check if he's okay. The freckled teen has been acting weirdly for the past few days and the girl was worried. She could tell that something was bothering him but she didn't know what it is. Is it because he was envious that he's the only first who's not a regular?

"Do I have to start a conversation with him?" she thought.

"A-ano..." Yamaguchi started, stopping his tracks. Ayame looked at him with a worried look. Tsukishima noticed that the two stopped walking and turned around to look at them.

"I-I'm going somewhere important so please go on ahead without me. S-sorry...um...bye" he said, looking at them with an apologetic face. He turned to the other corner and walked away from them.

"B-bye then..." she said, waving lightly before facing the megane "Is there something wrong with him?"

"Dunno" Tsukishima answered, shrugging it off. Ayame sighed loudly. The two of them continued walking in silence. In all honesty, she kinda liked Yamaguchi's presence when they're walking home. It was less awkward and the silence is not deafening.

"Hey! Tsukishima! Ayame!" Sugawara called them, waving his hand. The whole team is munching on the pork buns in front of the store, Daichi's treat.

"We reserve some for you guys-" but was cut off when Tanaka and Nishinoya ran and grabbed the megane by the collar and viciously shook him while yelling accusing words to him.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING WITH OUR PRECIOUS ANGEL, TSUKISHIMA?!?! WHY THE HELL ARE YOU TWO WALKING ALONE?!"

"Yuu-senpai, Ryu-senpai, please stop that" Ayame said, lightly hitting their heads with her notebook. Instantly, the two second years swooned in happiness, add the flower backgrounds.

"Here, we reserved some for you" Daichi said, giving them some pork buns.

"Thanks" Tsukishima accepted it and gave the other to the girl. She thanked the megane and took a bite.

"Isn't Yamaguchi with you guys?" Sugawara asked them.

"He said that he's going somewhere important so he went ahead..." Ayame explained, worry crossed her face. Tsukishima and Sugawara smirked mischievously after they saw her expression.

"Ohohoho~? What's with that look, Ayame-chan?" Sugawara asked, raising an eyebrow "Concerned for Yamaguchi, aren't ya?"

"Hmm? Ah yes...he's been really down lately..." she answered, looking down. Tsukishima snickered because she didn't understand what Sugawara meant. However, two certain second years misinterpreted it and they looked like they were slapped in the face.

"Waah!! Ayame-chan!! Don't tell me...do you...do you like Yamaguchi?!" Nishinoya and Tanaka cried. Daichi whacked their heads for asking such things.

"Like...Tadashi-kun?" Ayame echoed "like...as a friend?"

Daichi sighed in relief, thankful for her naivety in life. However, the smirking megane had other ideas and shook his head and whispered in her ear "No...something more different...something even closer...like...as a boyfriend..."

It took her five seconds to process his words and she blushed. Tsukishima smirked and the two assuming second years grabbed his collar and accused him for dirty talking her. The girl didn't mind the commotion behind her and was busy thinking about what Tsukishima told her.
