Afterwards, he just held her for a while, shifting his weight back and forth between his feet to create a kind of rocking sensation. Maybe because he had no other words to say, he sang to her softly: that same sad song she loved so much.

"We'll run away. We'll go far, far away and no one will ever find us," she said. His only response was the song's refrain.

An hour later Kellah was walking silently with Megah back towards their homes. Megah inquired how he'd taken the news, but Kellah just said she didn't want to talk about it.

The thought crossed Kellah's mind: what if she just killed her? Waited until they were in some unlit corner and strangled her or bashed her on the head with a rock? Could she come up with an explanation that anyone would believe?

Of course, she would never be able to bring herself to do any of these things to her best friend. It wasn't her fault. From what Haman had said, Megah still didn't even know.
