"The Yule Ball? What's that?" Anne prodded me.

"No clue." I replied, shaking my head.

McGonagall had requested the students of Gryffindor to assemble, saying that she had a special announcement to make. I expected the finals to be cancelled, due to the Triwizard Tournament. I was wrong. It was some sort of dance.

After Miss McGonagall explained everything, she began to talk about the dance, "Inside every girl, a secret swan slumbers, waiting to burst out, to take flight..."

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Ronald Weasley whispering something into Seamus' ears, forgetting that McGonagall had the ears of a hawk.

"Inside every boy, a lordly lion prepares to prance. Mister Weasley!" McGonagall cried out, "Will you join me please?" She caught the younger boy's collar and yanked him forward, ignoring the snickers of Harry and Seamus.

They made their way to the floor and McGonagall said, "Now, place your right hand on my waist."

"W-where?" Ron stammered.

"On my waist." She said firmly, earning a wolf whistle from George.

George and I had the weirdest of friendships, to be honest. There were rumours about us dating; a couple, but they weren't true. Oh, how I wished them true.

I looked at George, who was imitating Ron, and then caught me staring and then raised an eyebrow in an amused expression and mouthed, "Take a picture. It'll last longer."

I shook my head at him and smiled, then abruptly stood up when McGonagall asked us to choose our partners.

It was finally Christmas and I was kinda disappointed that George hadn't asked me. Besides, it was a one-sided crush after all.

I was seated on one of the tables, alone, because Anne ditched me with some Durmstrang boy.

Dean approached me and I smiled, "May I have this dance?"

I grinned, "You may."

We danced for a while, and even spoke about a lot of Muggle things, since we both came from Muggle families.

And suddenly, somebody cleared their throat behind me. I turned my head and narrow my eyes at the red-haired man.

"Um, I'm gonna go..." Dean said, "It was a pleasure dancing with you, m'lady." He bowed, took my hand, kissed it and left.

"What, George?" I asked, irritated.

"Oh, miss him already?" George sassed.

"What is your problem?" I asked.

"Dean Thomas is my problem. Do you like him?" George asked, tucking his hands in his pockets.

"Does it have anything to do with you?" I rolled my eyes.

"Actually yes. Are the two of you dating? Why didn't you tell me?" His voice wasn't stern, but was innocent and pleading.

"I'm not dating him." I said, raising an eyebrow and before he could answer anything else, I added, "And I danced with him because I didn't have anyone. The person I wanted to dance with never asked me."

"Listen, (Y/N), I'm sorry I couldn't ask you, I was so nervous-" George began ranting.

I smirked and teased him, "What makes you think that I wanted to go with you?"

George rolled his eyes and placed his hands on my waist, pulling me to him and resting his forehead on mine.

My heart picked up pace.

"You can't resist this." He said and kissed the corner of my mouth.

"Yeah, I can't." I murmured and caught his tie and pulled him for a kiss.

Let's say that this was the best first Christmas ball ever.
