She woke up suddenly, sitting up in her bed and immediately feeling pain all over her body. Jay realized she was in her own bed and that Tony must've put her here. She silently thanked him as Jay practically flopped out of bed and rolled over to the small couch in her bedroom. Her dad put out her black trench coat, black skinny jeans, white fingerless gloves, a navy blue floppy hat, and her combat boots for her as well as a note.
'Hey, Jay! The Avengers and I had to go to a SHIELD base in upstate New York to talk about the whole Ashtaroth threat thing. I know what you're thinking, and I told Fury the same thing, but he said it was a classified Avengers matter that you weren't allowed to come. Apparently, he's basically kicked you out of SHIELD. We'll be back tomorrow morning. Don't burn down the tower! - Dad'.
Burn the tower down? Really??
She smiled slightly, dragging the clothes with her into the bathroom to get ready for the morning. Jay decided she was going to stop being a depressed potato and actually get off her ass to do something. Because yes, she was in fact not a depressed potato as you may believe. When she finished taking a long shower and probably used up all of the hot water - which when you are in a billionaire's tower, that's saying something - she finally went down to the main floor to fix herself something to eat.
Jay was slightly uneasy with the silence in the tower but made herself breakfast nonetheless. She sighed, taking her plate of pancakes and bacon to the couch and sitting down with her legs underneath her.
"FRIDAY? Can you turn on the news?" As she shoved a fork full of pancakes and maple syrup into her mouth, the large flatscreen TV clicked on to show the morning news reporter. The guy was talking about the weather forecast for the week. Sure, it was boring, but Jaylynn liked the background noise. It was a good substitute for there being no one else in the tower except her and Loki - but obviously, he was out of the picture.
After she was finished, she cleaned everything up and went to the library floor. It was massive - much larger than the small one in her room. She browsed the shelves of books that seemed to be untouched until she finally found the fantasy aisle. Jay picked out the last books in the Harry Potter series, finding her way back to the elevator and pressing the button for the basement. When she got down there and opened up the huge metal door, she stumbled inside while trying to balance the stack of books in her arms. Loki was casually leaned up against the glass with the third Harry Potter book in his hands. He looked up at her, gently closing his book and setting it down beside him.
"You've been gone for a while." He said quietly, clasping his hands together in his lap.
"Yeah, I might've had a nervous breakdown." She smiled slightly, opening up the cell and sitting a few feet away from him and setting down the books. "I'm sorry I didn't come earlier to give these to you."
"It's no problem, Jay. I'm happy to see you again." He gave her an extremely small smile, but for a god who tried to take over the world, it was something.
"So, I-" she was interrupted by the ringing of her phone. Jay rolled her eyes, answering the call. "Yes?"
"Atlas, it's Fury. I-"
"No no. It's actually Jay or Jaylynn when you want to talk to me outside of work." She moved over to sit a few feet away from Loki up against the glass.
"Jaylynn, I hope you know that we have cameras in Loki's cell, yes?"
"Of course, Fury! What, do you think I'd try to take the so-called psychopath out of his little hidey hole?" She said, raising an eyebrow. She could've sworn she heard a small chuckle escape Loki's mouth.
"Moving on. I need you to come over to the SHIELD base. Just ask FRIDAY where the location is. I trust that you'll be able to get over here without destroying anything?"
"Why does everyone think I'm going to blow something up? When have I ever blown anything up? I don't think I've even started a fire."
"Y-"
"Ever."
"Just come out here."
"Only if you admit that you really need my help."
"Atlas."
"Jaylynn."
"Just get out here right now."
"Fine, fine. I'm coming." She ended the call and looked apologetically over at Loki. "Sorry, mate. Duty calls, I guess." She stood up, giving him a small smile. "I'll be back later, promise!" She left out of the cell, closing it behind her.
"See you later, then." She heard him mumbled as she entered the elevator.
