Journal Entry #3

Gleanings in which the person suffers absolutely disgust me. I feel it is a dishonorable way to die and one that carries an immense sorrow for me. The fact that I had to lash out and slit the man's throat yesterday brought me a pain I haven't felt in years.

These sufferings still don't compare to that of martyrs however. Whereas one person must suffer with death, the family suffers with a martyr. I suffer too, not only because I must bring myself before the entire council, but because I gleaned incorrectly. I took the life of one I deemed unfit for gleaning.

I find that martyrs are becoming more and more common. Soon the Scythedom must decide on what becomes with those that jump in the way of a Scythe's blade. The Thunderhead itself might need to intervene, which is not something it does lightly.
