Chapter 6

I awoke to the murmuring of voices, hushed voices in the distance and the beep of devices.

I was confused.

I moved my eyes, slowly opening them to realise that I could see nothing. Everything around me was in darkness. Silent and dark.

'My blindfold must me on', was my first automatic thought.

I tried moving my arms to my face, but my body felt heavy, sluggish, I tried again but I could only move my arms so much before I realised they were restrained. It hurt.

My further attempts to move only alerted my captors that I was awake.

I heard footsteps coming closer.

"So your awake," said a voice that was clearly male.

I tried to answer, but it was hard to speak, instead a strange sound was released.

"Don't try to speak just yet, you've been asleep for a while," claimed the voice.

I didn't recognise the voice, my mind was still slightly foggy as I tried to get my bearings.

"You hit your head pretty badly when you fell, you had a slight concussion, so you may still be a bit confused," the man told me.

One word that he said, fell, kept coming back to me. When I fell, when did I fall?

Only when he told me that, did my memories start coming back.

The fall, the attack.

Oh god, Jamie

They took Jamie, they took my son.

My heart rate started increasing, the monitor beside me started beeping erratically.

"Miss! Miss please calm down," the man said, as I heard more footsteps coming closer.

"Your having a panic attack, please try to breathe," he told me, but I couldn't calm down, they had my son, what did they do to him?

I struggled against my restraints, I tried to speak but my chest was hurting I couldn't get the words out. I stared feeling nauseous and faint, an overwhelming feeling of fear swept me as I thought about the condition of my son.

But slowly after a while I felt calmer, my heartbeat slowing down, as I calmed.

"The anti-anxiety medication is starting to take affect, she's calming down," I could hear the doctor telling his colleague.

I was still confused but my thoughts were slowly returning.

Jamie...Jamie was why I was worried, why I panicked.

I wanted to know where he was.

"Jami-."

"Son," I shouted.

My shout must have alerted someone, as I heard someone come closer.

So I tried again.

"Jamie- where's my son," I asked, the last of my strength leaving me.

"Don't worry," he said coming closer, and laying a comforting hand on my arm.

"The boy... your son is safe." he reasured me.

"He wasn't brought to me, which means he wasn't injured," he calmly told me.

"Where?" I asked.

He seemed to understand my question.

"He's safe, he's currently with a family that have a child his age. But that's all I know."

But it was enough to calm me down, as long as he was fine I would be fine. He could have been lying but I don't see why he would to comfort me, after all I was a prisoner.

He must have taken my silence as a signal to leave, as I could hear his footsteps moving away.

As he left, it gave me a moment to think, to get all my facts straight. I was basically handicapped as my eyes were covered and my hands restrained. I could hear voices in the distance, so I assumed I was being monitored.

So I couldn't escape, the fact that I didn't know the location of Jamie also erased any thoughts of escape, because I knew he would be hurt if I tried anything stupid.

The fact that I was alive and not dead meant that they needed me for something, the fact that they treated my injuries further reinforced that idea.

So they needed me, I had to use that as a bargaining chip for mine and my son's safety.

My wondering thoughts were soon brought to a halt, by a harsh sound to my left.

"The good doctor tells me your awake and coherent," the unknown voice asked, in a no nonsense tone.

"Yes," I reply as its in my best interest to remain cooperative.

"Good," he says, "I have a few questions that I'd like to ask, if you're up to it of course."

"Fine," because what else can I say, I know by his tone that he wants answers and its in my best interest to answer.

"But could you remove the restraints at least, I can't realy do anything anyway."

They was silence for a while, while he delibarated, but I soon felt a hand on my wrist removing the harsh, tight farbric.

It hurt at first, my hand felt numb from its misuse, but it felt good to have the freedom to move my hands.
