I lay on the ground, struggling against the searing pain of Joss's bite.
"Edythe!" I managed to say despite my suffering and agony. But my voice sounded almost like a desperate, tortured cry.
Carine's voice rang out, "Archie, get me something to brace his leg!"
I felt my both hands clutched in another pair of cold hands.
Cold lips had touched my skin - I was feeling them; they were somewhat trembling.
In a matter of time my screaming and thrashing did stop and my eyes fluttered closed. But I tried to find my way back to the surface.
"Edythe." I whispered.
"She's right here, Beau." Archie's musical voice rang out.
I started feeling detached, "Stay, Edythe, stay with me..."
"I will." Edythe choked out.
"Is it all out?" Carine inquired.
"His blood tastes clean. I can taste the morphine." This voice sounded relieved.
"Beau?" Carine asked.
"Mmmm?
"Is the fire gone?"
"Yes... Thank you, Edythe." I uttered dreamily.
"I love you." Her voice was shaky.
"I know."
I was rewarded with a laughter full of joy and relief.
"Beau?" Carine pressed.
"What?" I almost scowled.
"Where is your mother?"
I sighed, "In Florida. She tricked me, Edythe. She watched our videos."
I continued, "Archie... Archie, the video — she knew you, Archie, she knew where you came from." My voice was softly floating...
"I smell gasoline," I croaked.
"It's time to move him." Carine stated.
"No, I want to sleep." - I whined.
"You can sleep, darling, we'll carry you." Her voice was very soothing and gentle. I was picked up and cradled.
"Sleep now, Beau." Once again, Edythe soothed, as my eyelids closed.
