One thing the twins loved was walking in the park, it was their favorite thing in the entire world. They loved feeling the sun beaming on their face and warming up their bodies. At the moment they were determinably walking to the swings. Aurelia was sitting with Steve's mom talking amiably. Steve was laughing as he ran ahead to go to the slide. The twins laughed as they walked side by side. Lucas stiffened slightly in fear as he felt a cold hand clamp across his mouth, next to him he heard Marcus whimper in fear. The arms tightened around them and dragged them away.
At the bench Aurelia was approached by a timid looking little girl with tears in her eyes, "I lost my mommy!" She cried pitifully. Aurelia smiled at her gently, "Okay, what does she look like?" She tries to help the girl for a while before a tall man walks over, "Come on Alissa, time to go." The girl looks at her with fearful eyes before allowing herself to be dragged away.
Aurelia looks around and panics when she doesn't see the twins anywhere.
The twins are roughly shoved into the back of a van with a blonde girl. None of the children talk on the long drive to the small house in the woods. The twins are roughly grabbed and lead by their hands to a small room inside the basement while Alissa is dragged up the stairs. With the twins Rose stands above them menacingly, "So you two useless free loaders are back I see," She sneers the words and Lucas whimpers as he and Marcus both move back in fear. Rose pulls Marcus to his feet and harshly slaps his face making the boy cry out before she turns to Lucas and hits him to. "You two have been bad boys!" She scolds making the twins bow their heads in submission before she barks, "Are you two bad boys?!" The twins cower and nod before Rose stands up, "Okay I will wait to finish your punishment for leaving until John is with me." The twins watched fearfully as she got up and left, leaving them alone in the damp cold room.
Walking upstairs Rose saw John holding Alissa gently on his hip, "Good girl," she praised patting the girl harshly on the head before turning to John, "The boys are ready to be dealt with." John nods and sets Alissa on the floor, "Run along, baby." "How's she settling in?" Rose asks. "She still calls out for her mom in her sleep but she's getting better." Rose nods before turning and walking determinedly down the basement steps.
The twins glance up when the stairs creak alerting them of the two adults plight towards the twins. "Okay, babies you did something very naughty running away from Mommy, right?" The twins nod fearfully and Rose continues, "Okay well for that you have to be punished. Your uncle John so going to give you fifty lashes with the buckle end of his belt and then the bottoms of your feet are going to get burn so you can't run away again and no food for a week. Also because of your last little stunt you can't interact with your new sister Alissa without one of us and we've installed cameras, understand?" The twins nod so Rose smiles and kisses them both on the cheek before going up the stairs.
"Okay Lucas first, come here," Lucas shares an uneasy glance with Marcus before walking over to John. John grabs his belt from where it's laid on the floor and gets Lucas to lay across his lap as he repeatedly lands the belt down on Lucas' but and legs. When he's done Lucas is crying and whimpers as he winces walking over to Marcus. Marcus' turn seems to take forever as Lucas continues to cry. Finally Marcus is done and walks to curl up with Lucas on the basement floor. Rose eventually walks down with John who'd gone back up after he'd dealt with the twins first punishment. "Okay c'mon guys up the stairs we go," Lucas and Marcus share a scared glance before hurrying up the stairs.
Up the stairs the fire place is roaring and there is something sticking out of it. When Rose pulled it out the boys realized it was a now red-hot pizza cutter. John pushed Lucas to the floor as Rose slowly approached. Lucas started struggling and Marcus strained to get closer to his brother only to be stopped by John's heavy hand resting on his shoulder. With his other hand John forces Lucas' legs out to where the bottom of his feet are facing Rose. Rose takes a moment to adjust her hold on the pizza cutter before slamming the flat side to Lucas' right foot. She holds it for a moment before pressing it to Lucas' left foot. Lucas' loud, hoarse screams fill the house. Marcus is dragged up next, despite his kicking and struggling. After Rose reheats the pizza cutter she holds it to the bottoms of Marcus' feet. Marcus screams until she takes the blade off and then starts to sob when she removes it.
Picking up Marcus, Rose motions for John to do the same with Marcus. They carry the silently crying twins into the kitchen where Alissa is quietly starting to prepare dinner for them. Rose smiles at her gently, "Hey Alissa, these two are your brothers, Lucas and Marcus. Remember the ones I told you about that ran away? Yeah we got them back now it's just waiting to get back Cyrus and Darius," Marcus whimpers at that sentence and Rose bounces him assuming he missed them. While Marcus did miss them, the last thing he wanted was for his brothers to be here, "Their feet are hurt right now, so they can't really walk right now okay?" Rose says to Alissa. Alissa nods and continues to quietly set the table. Lucas starts to whine from John's arms and Rose walks over to him, "What baby?" Lucas whines as he tries to grab for something, "Your words, please!" Rose snaps. Lucas whimpers as he continues to grab at thin air, rolling her eyes Rose walks away.
Soon the adults are sat down at the table with Alissa, quietly eating while the twins are sat on the floor under the table. "Okay! I think it's time to head to bed. John you put Alissa to bed I'll deal with the twins," John nods and disappears up the stairs. Rose looks at the twins until snapping, "Well that are you waiting on? Come on!" The twins share a confused glance before attempting to get up. They then both cry out in pain and fall after putting pressure on their burnt feet. "Crawl," Rose says with an eye roll. Lucas whimpers as he starts to crawl down the stairs with Marcus following him. Rose decided they are being to slow and kicks them down the stairs causing them to land with a cry. "You will get blankets as a reward for good behavior," she nods once and turns to go to bed. The twins curl together and cry themselves to the sleep.
Aurelia and Boz are freaking out even though the twins have only been missing for a day. Cyrus and Darius are completely not cooperating with the police as they order searches for their baby brothers. Steve had been inconsolable, feeling it was his fault as he was the one to ask the twins to go to the park. Everyone from the previous case was investigated again. Every teacher the twins had had in the previous years was pulled in for questioning, Cyrus and Darius were continuously shown pictures of people who had been seen around the twins, and police were constantly stationed around Cyrus' and Darius' houses.
The week without food passed by painfully slow for the twins, both dropping ten pounds before the week was over. After that being good for Rose and John is easy. Allow them to be affectionate, pretend to love them back, do their chores, not going outside, not making noise, and not making noise. Punishments are painful but the twins quickly get reconditioned to the harsh conditions. Alissa is kind but distant with them and they often here her crying out for her parents in her sleep. No one in the house mentions those late night cries. Rose pretends to be the loving mother to the three of them while John plays the disciplinary father figure. Lucas and Marcus play the part of the young brothers who aren't very close with their sister.
When a day turns into a month Cyrus and Darius double their efforts with finding the twins. When a month turns into a year people start to gently tell them to give up hope. "I mean would you even want them back anyways?" "They are broken." "They aren't even your real kids." "Their real parents didn't even care about them." "I hate to say this but... you guys need to start facing facts. They've been gone so long, they're probably not still alive." After being told her kids were dead for the third time in a week Aurelia snaps, "They are my children! I can feel they're still alive okay?! You know nothing about them! They're so strong! They are amazing! You don't know them! Okay?! You don't know them!" Aurelia breaks off with a sob before turning and leaving the store they were handing missing flyers out at. Cyrus and Darius both turn and run after her.
Months pass by with no information coming forwards before a little after the two year anniversary of the twins' second abduction a break through in the case came through. It took another two weeks before the police managed to find the house the twins were being held.
Both Rose and John were convicted and confessed to all their crimes before being sentenced to life in prison.
Alissa went back to her mom but still frequently visited the twins. The twins had both good and bad days. On good days they would sit with Steve and Kitty watching cute children's movies. On bad days they would cry as they tried to walk or not try to move from their bed at all.
It seemed like it would be a bad day. Aurelia glanced anxiously at the clock as she waited for the twins to come down. After a while she sighed and got up to walk up the stairs. She frowned as she heard no sound coming from the twins' room. Getting worried she hurried to the their room. Peering in she saw the twins cuddled together on Marcus' bed quietly watching something on Cyrus' laptop. Cyrus was sitting on the floor beside them and smiled reassuringly at her. She smiles and turns away. Her babies would be okay.
