My Childhood Fears

When I was a kid,

I pulled the covers up to my head.

Who knows how many fears I had,

About monsters, aliens or ghosts…

My dad used to watch scary movies,

About big talking monkeys from the future.

My grandpa used to watch documentaries,

About aliens that haunt people at night…

But I was only a kid,

Who was scared every time the lights went out.

I had a splendid memory, back then…

At school, a tomboy named Selena

Told me scary stories too,

About an invisible boy that killed kids,

During the night…

The only things that could help me,

Were the dozens and dozens

Of soft toys that I called my friends.

They protected me from head to toe.

I’d go crazy if one of my friends went missing…

Now I’ve grown up,

And my fears have evaporated.

I’m strong against the dark realm.

All my friends have left me now that I don’t need their protection.

However, the grey-purple care-bear stayed to remind me of such childish memories.

 Memories of my childhood fears…
