self discovery

in the deep dark sea lived many of creatures.
some discovered,
some yet to be found.
their faces were twisted and sewn into place,
with not a pair of scissors around.
yet she found a way to swim through the reefs and past the coves,
making her way to the surface where the sun brightly shone.
only to be toppled over by the waves
time and time again.
drowning in the salt water, her eyes began to burn.
she tried to blink it away,
but her face was stuck in place.
determined to see the world with a clear view free from blurred vision,
she began to swim once again.
although at times she could not breathe,
and more often could not see,
there came a day when she finally swam no more.
because beneath her wrinkled fingertips
she felt the shells of the shore.
with a broken mollusk she cut the strings that wove through her flesh.
the muscles within her cheeks had become weak,
but with practice upon practice
a smile formed.
her eyes had become watery,
and the tears washed away the microscopic grains of salt.
each day the sunrises and sunsets became all the more clearer.
and in turn, made them all the more beautiful.
because she had finally found herself.
she thanked the world for it's tragedies it layed upon her.
for the waves that almost drowned her.
for the broken shells that let her smile.
for the horizons full of peace and beauty.
she learned to love everything for what it was, and what it brought along with it.
including herself.
