Carly POV
I successfully got to my car and went home to shower. It was a Saturday, which meant my brunch date with my dearest friend Lisa. She was another lawyer at the firm and a bit younger. Her cases were mainly pro bono, which she didn't mind considering her family's wealth.
It didn't take me long to get to the spa and find my usual spot. My body melting into the chair as I sipped from a glass of water.
"God damn you look like shit." I glanced up to see her biting her lip in a grin. Her blue eyes hawking at me. Her Rose color hair tightly held in a bun. "New client."
"Yeah and he's so bad he's a career ender. Lisa it's geazy. G FUCKING EAZY." I rubbed my temple with my spare hand before standing. We walked back to the dressing room and got in our robes before going to get our toes done.
"How'd you get that case?"
"James said no one else can deal with him. I see why already. Last night I walked to the studio that was mentioned in the file. Well then he wanted to go to his home studio. Bam he drives me to his house instead of my car.... Said tough luck beautiful or something like that.... Lisa this man is causing me to go grey!" She just laughed and kept her eyes on me before looking to the woman.
" My friend here is going to need a mimosa."
"I'm not joking Lisa." I sighed before glancing down at my toes as the woman painted them. "I'm in over my head on this one. No pun intended cause Gerald is tall as hell."
"Is he cute?" I glanced to Lisa who smirked. "What? I mean if he's cute at least it is worth dealing with him." I wasn't even thinking like that, yet Lisa was right. He was kind of handsome. Though certainly not worth the baggage that he made for me as his lawyer. I wiggled my toes once the lady was done and flashed a smile.
"Worst part is I have to go on tour with him. Months with him. Not days or weeks... Months." I glanced to Lisa who was smirking. We got up and wandered down the hall to get our nails done.
" Maybe he'll grow on you."
"Maybe like bacteria or a virus sure." I shot a look to her as I sunk into the chair and watched the woman examine my nails. " He fucking snorts coke off hookers and has sex with random strangers every night. How am I even going to protect him from anything if he doesn't care?"
"Maybe you actually don't even know him Carly. Maybe what you know is what the media shows you. He can't be a complete asshole 24/7 right? I mean if he is then damn I'll plan your retirement party now. Twenty six isn't too early to retire right?"
"I hope you're right... Maybe just maybe he isn't a complete and utter bag of dicks." I stayed silent as the woman finished my nails and let them dry. Yet I couldn't enjoy my massage. My mind was on the mess before me.
I hugged Lisa at the end of it all before going back to Gerald's. This time I knew to pack emergency clothes as if I was a flight attendant on moment's notice. The large driveway was empty except for his car which was surprising. I glanced to the clock on my dash, it was nearly six and the house lacked the life it seemed to hold.
I parked my car before walking up to the front door and using the spare key I had been supplied. Piano was playing as I entered, somewhere from other than the studio. I kicked off my heels by the door and followers the noise. His back was to me, a glass of whiskey on the piano top. He was wearing jeans and a leather jacket, his hair loose as if he'd just showered.
He stopped playing and I cleared my throat. His posture stiffened for a moment before he turned around and nearly stumbled off the piano stool.
"Hey Carly." He flashed a smile yet I sighed in response. He was drunk, I could tell by the spur of his words. If there was one thing I understood it was drinks. My ex had been a abusive one to say the least.
" Why don't you go lay down Gerald. You're drunk." I motioned to the sofa and grabbed a blanket off the back. He stumbled towards the leather sofa and collapsed before I covered him up. I sighed and sat down on the other side, glancing at my phone.
" Can I talk to you?" I glanced to him, his eyes were locked onto me.
" Of course. I'm lawyer I'm here to talk... To advise Gerald." He shook his head slightly.
"Nah I mean more as a friend." I shrugged and curled my legs to my side, pulling down my skirt slightly.
"I suppose. What is it you want to talk about you?"
"How I got here." He looked down at a string he was messing with from the blanket. "I got the perfect life. I had the perfect girl till I realize who she really was and then I really looked at what I got. I got money and fame. Where is the happiness you know? I got great friends and I do what I love, but I'm not happy." I sighed slightly and chewed on the inside of my cheek in thought.
"Did you ever think that taking a vacation away from everyone and everything would be good? I kind of went through the same thing... Happy life and great guy. Then when it's all gone you've only got yourself. The thing you should have been taking care of all along. The thing you should have treasured the most." He nodded and sat up only to lay down so that his head was on my lap. I was going to protest until he started to cry. I bit my lips together and gently ran my fingers through his hair. My eyes watering from the painful scene before me.
Maybe Lisa was right. I only knew G-eazy and not Gerald.
