About a week later, Bret's doctors said that they would be able to discharge him from the hospital. He is feeling much better than he was before. Three of his right ribs are still broken and his left ankle is bruised, but there are no more life threatening injuries. Bret and I came to the decision that he will be staying with me at my house until he gets better. Who knows, if all goes well, then maybe he will move in.

He and I are more than thrilled to bring him home. We can not wait to pick up where we left off in our relationship. I am supposed to pick him up at seven o'clock tonight, but I have to get through an entire day of work first.

Sitting in my office filling out the paper work from our last victim, I had a visitor. I had my door shut to prevent any distractions while I complete my work. Thinking it was Jane, I yelled, "Come in!" And to my surprise, Frankie walked through the door. When I see him walk in, I close my laptop and get up out of my chair.

"Frankie. Hi," I greeted him, walking over to where my coffee machine was. "Would you like some?"

Walking over to me, he answered, "Uh, sure."

After handing him a cup of coffee, I made myself some herbal tea. I sat on my couch and asked him, "So what brings you down here?"

"Maura, we gotta talk."

I took in a deep breath and let out a rather large sigh. I replied, "Yes I know we do." I was nervous with where this was going. Yes, we have shared a kiss in the past, but there can be nothing more with us. Frankie is like a brother to me and I am in love with Bret now. I can not be messing around with him anymore.

"You're one of my close friends, Maura. I'm sorry about what happened with us before."

"Don't apologize, Frankie. I took a part in it as well."

"Still, it shouldn't have happened. You're like my sister," he told me.

I smiled, "I'm so glad you think that because you're like a brother to me!"

"Ha, yeah. I also came down here to tell you something."

"Oh sure, shoot."

He started talking to this woman he recently started dating. I am so happy for him finding someone. Now, I don't have to worry about the way I act with Bret when he is around. It's nice to know that both of us have moved on and are not awkward about it.

Frankie needed advice on how to introduce this woman to his family. He knows that Angela would be a little too ecstatic and Jane would interrogate her. So I suggested that we will have a family dinner at my place. It can be a nice welcome home dinner for Bret, and Frankie can bring his new girlfriend.

When we ran out of words to say, it got pretty awkward. We had nothing else to say. Filling the silence, I told him, "Well Brooke is a lucky woman."

He looked up at me and smiled, "Yeah I guess so."

"She is Frankie, you are a wonderful and respectful man."

"Can I be honest with you?" he asked me. I nodded my head and he continued, "Bret is a very lucky man as well."

I took my eyes off of him and drew my attention onto the floor. I whispered, "Frankie..."

"I'm serious, Maura. You are a very beautiful woman. I will never lose the feelings I have for you." I looked up at him feeling my heart getting pulled in different directions. He added, "And I'm happy that you're happy."

I just stared into his eyes. Still holding my mug, I could feel that our heads were moving closer together. Being lost in the moment, I closed my eyes to kiss him.
