She caught eyes with Newt, and their expressions were a perfect mirror of each other. No one in that council house could believe their ears — what was going on?
With a nod of permission from the she-bean, Gally shot out of the door with Newt at his side, several gladers following in suit.
Minho lingered and took Kennedy's arm, wrapping it around his neck and making for the doors as quickly as he could. He was hardly fazed by the extra weight. She let him tug her along and only looked over her shoulder when Thomas called for her, face a sight. He looked terrible confused. Kennedy was shocked that he didn't recognise the sounds, but it was easy to block out situations that you associated with distress. Coming up to the glade could be pretty traumatic, and was for most kids. She'd had nightmares, and others had opted to forget it. Thomas seemed to be the latter, by judging his confusion. Poor shank had no idea.
"Kennedy—!" He rushed to catch up, "What's that sound?"
"It's the box," Chuck answered, piping up as he appeared at the newbie's side. They shadowed Minho and Kennedy as they left the council house, hot on their heels. When Thomas' face showed no more understanding, Chuck elaborated. "It's coming back up!"
