Things had changed over the summer. All of us were growing. Klara was even taller than she had been before, she got a cell phone, and she broke up with Jake. Actually, it was Jake that had broken up with Klara. She told me about it as we laid in bed that first night.

"He got tired of me denying him," she practically whispered. The moonlight softly lit our room, shining mostly on Klara, making her glow in the night. "He wanted to go farther than I wanted to go."

"Boys sound like too much trouble. I think I'll hold off on dating for a while."

She laughed softly.

"That's probably a good idea. I think maybe I won't date again until I'm at least twenty-five. That seems like a good age."

I smiled to myself.

"Yes," I agreed. "It does."
