“Elena,” Alaric simply stated softly. He held out a bowl of cereal giving me the smallest of smiles. Remembering the breakfasts-in-bed Damon used to cook up for me even after I had turned brought tears to my eyes again. It had been a month so far, and I felt like I hadn’t stopped crying since the night I lost him.

“Elena, hey,” Alaric pulled me into his arms and I couldn’t contain the tears streaming down my face, down to the collar of Damon’s navy blue shirt that I had woken up in. I wore his clothes to bed every night. I slept on his side of the bed, clutching the pillow to my body, the way I used to hold him.

“Elena, I’m going to suffocate!” Damon chuckled as I pulled him even closer to my chest.

“Don’t pretend you don’t love it,” I smirked, as he looked up at me with his sapphire blue eyes and flashed his incredibly perfect smile.

“I love you, Elena,” Damon said as he adjusted his position so that I was lying on top of his body, under the covers, my face buried in the crook of his neck.

Inhaling his scent, my lips found his. We were completely intertwined, and I had no intention of letting go, “I love you Damon.”

“Elena?” Jeremy’s voice snapped me back into reality. I didn’t even bother hiding the fact that I was still crying over him, knowing that I’d never get over it.

“Any progress with Enzo, Jer?” I asked, trying to calm down. Trying so hard to focus on what was happening in the Salvatore kitchen. But the flashbacks wouldn’t stop. I didn’t want them to. I would never forget Damon. We were going to bring him back, somehow. Damon and Bonnie would return to us. I sat down at the kitchen table, as Jer sat next to me taking my hand.

“Actually, yes,” Jeremy said, as Alaric sat down next to us with his full attention on what Jeremy was about to say. My eyes lit up instantly, but I had to remain calm because whatever progress they had made didn’t mean Damon was coming back right away. But he was coming back one way or the other. Whatever it takes.

“Where are you off to, Little Miss ‘I’m on a mission’?” Damon teased as he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.

I smiled when he touched me, “Grocery store. I need human food to feed my brother and Matt, remember?”

“Two humans in a house of vampires…it’s hard to keep track of the food situation!” Damon whispered in my ear while he ran his hands up and down the sides of my body.

“Damon….” He cut me off by pressing his lips to mine. I dropped my purse and entangled my fingers in his soft dark hair, pulling his mouth back to mine.

“Wanna come with me?” I asked him as I picked up my bag.

“How many vampires does it take to do groceries?” Damon smirked as I rolled my eyes. He wrapped his arm around my waist, threw on his leather jacket, and grabbed his keys to the Camaro.
