...Or do I call this an afterward now the books 'done'?
It's probably super obvious but I did give up a little halfway through. I wrote the first 'version' of this book when I was about seven and I've kept coming back to it for so long...
It just can't really get much further? You know? The world is rudimentary and not all that interesting. The characters are scavenged from other books, as well as the setting. It would sound better to say they were inspired by these books (Divergent, Song of the Lioness & Protector of the Small, Lunar Chronicles) but tbh I didn't always take into account what the character had been through and thought over whether or not they belong there.
Want a talking cat? Sure!
How about a crazy princess/half-sister?
Ooh, Mulan, fun! Cross-dressing? Kk.
You get the idea. So I know I could do things to improve this still - build an interesting world, give characters better backstories... give them actual human flaws (What a concept) and make them react to situations accordingly, but I've literally been re-writing this on and off for...Omigosh I just realized... just over half my life (Not sure I'm stubborn or sad at this point) So I think I'll leave it here.
That's not to say I hate it entirely... I loved working with Mable and Faithful was lovely and sarcastic and I'm pretty proud of myself for getting to this point.
Soooo
I've tried a few different ways of writing things over the years and I have learned a lot. I've even tried writing random scenes and tying them together later (In my Harry Potter fanfiction Taking Flight) and that was fun, but I think to write a book which is really going somewhere I actually need to plan things out (Ugh), which is what I'm doing now for another fantasy type book.
I'm making a world and creating characters and it's actually kinda fun (So ignore the Ugh to planning above) Hopefully this time I'll see my project through and give it an actual non-cliche plot, but I hope you enjoyed this one :)
Aaand I thought I'd post this picture I found bc it's pretty much gonna be my bible for the next few months -
Lol, minus the s*x scene part (I should have cropped that out) bc nobody want's to read those...
And perhaps I should kill characters sparingly
Also, good luck with any of your own projects!! <3 :)
