The Setting of a Stage

It was 7:30 and Jonathan was walked around the dim school hallway waiting for Thace to exit auditorium. Wishing his little sister Navi hadn't ditched him awhile ago to go and hang out with her friends Olivia and Mailee. But unfortunately she had, Jonathan thought holding a piece of folded paper in his hand.

After a minute or two more the doors opened and Thace and the rest of the play's cast walked out still in full costumes which Thace's younger sister Alix helped design and sew.

"Thace," Jonathan yelled getting his attention.

"Oh hey Jona," Thace replied, his costume had a mock glittering dragonscale chest-plate and his black hair that he had expertly given a purple sheen was unkept and sticking up at random angles.

"Hi Thace, nice costume," Jonathan said messing up his hair even more but, still holding the paper at the ready.

"Yeah, having a costume designer for a sister definitely helps," Thace replied his Amber eyes smiling.

"Well want go out to eat with Navi and I, will probably just end up going to the Pizza place on 5th street," Jonathan begged more than offered, he was almost ready.

"Of course," he said then looked at his closes "I'll need to change first."

"Hey, Jones," said yelled a down the hallway.

Goddammit, Jonathan thought, there goes my chance.

"Oh hey Pearl," Thace called back.

"Somethings... Well somethings happened," Pearl said, sounding worried for the first time or at least for the first time that Jonathan had heard.

"Ok I'll be right there," he said to her, Jonathan's heart sank a little.

He then turn back to me and said, "Um, well, I guess I'll meet you at the pizza place on 5th 8:00, I promise."

"Wait can I give you this first," Said Jonathan in a breath of frustration this is not at all how the night was supposed to go.

"Can you give it to me at the pizza place," Thace called, running towards Pearl.

God-Fucking-Dammitt, Jonathan's mind screamed, he held the paper in his hand, a reminder of his failure of action.

Jonathan on the verge of tears rushed out of the hall, out of the school and stopped only in the schools courtyard to call his sister.

One ring, Then another, then another, though they felt like eternity's. U till his sister finally picked up.

"Hey bro-bro I'm plan on biking to the Place on 5th from Mailee's house. You home yet," Navi questioned, her voice cloud my chatter in the background.

"I'm about to walk home just stay at Mai's house and I'll pick you up," Jonathan said trying to clear up his voice.

"Oh ok," Navi paused, "Jo, you ok," she asked.

"It's nothing Na-Na, I'll be there in 10 minutes," said Jonathan ignoring all the thoughts that went through his mind of what Thace and Pearl were doing.

"Ok bye bro," Navi finish, hanging up.

Jonathan walked home in silence. When he arrived he got into his old beat up ford that Thace had always said needed a paint job, and sped off down the streets to Meilee's house.

By the Jonathan and Navi had sat down at the pizza place it was 8:00.

"We should wait till Thace gets here to order," Jonathan suggested.

"Ok but can we at let get drinks," Navi Pleaded with mock sad green eyes.

"Sure but you're buy then 'cuz I'm buying pizza," Jonathan said finally calm.

"Ok, you want Dr. Pepper, right," Navi asked.

"Actually Nav its pronounced, 'live giving water nectar of the gods' but yes I do," said Jonathan cracking a joke, smiling, really truly smiling.

Navi only walked away with a smile, five dollar bill in hand.
