Ally's POV;

I woke to a sunny day, which seemed the usual everyday weather now, I couldn't complain, I loved summer.

After what Damon had whispered to me last night, I felt safe, I felt cared for. Damon had whispered "If I die for you, it'll be worth it." His words had surprised me, consumed me.

I smiled and swung my legs out of bed as I went to have a shower when my phone began to ring from my desk, I frowned with confusion and picked it up, noticing the number was unknown. I answered it "Hello?" The female voice said "Hi, Ally, it's Vanessa."

I frowned with confusion and asked "Vanessa?" The voice confirmed "Vanessa Monroe, from Duke University." I finally remembered her and muttered "Oh yeah, Vanessa, the one who tried to shoot me." I smirked as she sighed and mumbled "I'm sorry."

I laughed and muttered "No problem. So, did you find anything new?" I paced my bedroom impatiently, knowing she was just calling to inform me she had nothing more on Alexandra. To my surprise she answered "Yes, actually, I do."

I froze and asked with interest "What did you find?" Vanessa went silent for a minute before she said "I think you need to come see this for yourself." I gulped with worry and asked "Why? What is it?" Vanessa sighed and muttered reassuringly "There's no dead bodies I swear, just something you need to see."

I debated for a moment and knew the day I had planned wasn't too interesting, it was just a picnic. I nodded to myself and agreed "I'll try to get up there." Vanessa answered "Don't worry about that, i'll pick you up. See you soon." I mumbled back "See you soon."

I put my phone down and hurried into the shower, to get my day started.

Once I was clean and washed I got out and picked an outfit from my wardrobe, my purple skinny jeans, high tops, checkered shirt and Damon's leather jacket, which I seemed to be wearing everyday. It was weird that I always wore Damon's jacket, but the gorgeous scent never faded, and whenever it's on, I always feel like Damon's with me.

Once I was dressed I grabbed my phone and keys and put them into my pocket as I walked downstairs and made a quick mug of coffee before I were to leave. When I eventually finished my coffee I put the mug in the sink just in time with the doorbell ringing, I walked out of the kitchen and over to the door, opening it to see a smiling Vanessa.

I greeted "Hey." She grinned and mumbled "Hi." I followed Vanessa over to her car and got in the front seat, beside her. She started the car and drove us out of Mystic Falls and towards Duke University.

I stared out of the window and hoped the guys wouldn't look for me, especially Damon. I needed answers, I needed to know the link between Alexandra and I.

Damon's POV;

I arrived at the picnic, cautious and aware that vengeful Mason was here somewhere.

There were stands of refreshments, decorations, groups of the town people engrossed in conversation and a stage set out in the center with Carol Lockwood on it, standing by the microphone.

Carol declared "This is all part of the historical society, continuing efforts to give back to the community. Thanks to the generous donation of the Fell family we are now standing on the sight of our newest public park. Thank you to everyone who has shown up today to lend a helping hand. Thanks."

I stood by the stands searching the crowd for Ally but couldn't seem to spot her anywhere. Maybe she was running late, that seemed like her.

I searched the faces of the people in the crowd when I spotted my brother by the side, talking intensely to Mason Lockwood. Oh, Stefan, always trying to plant peace trees.
