Personal Bio

Hi, I'm Lia! I'm a 43 year old writer and translator, living in the Netherlands.

My focus is on bringing the words and the characters on your page to life. If you feel show vs. tell or character motivation is an area where your story can improve, I might be the right fit for you. I believe in characters who might not be all that likeable, but who are most certainly relatable—as a writer you can let your characters get away with murder (in either the literal or metaphorical sense) as long as you've given them proper motivation for their actions.

I'm open and honest and I don't hesitate to kill your darlings, but I do kill them with kindness.

I accept both stories that are currently being written and completed stories.

Preferred Genres

I'm open to any genre, but my area of expertise lies within the romance genre, be it romantic suspense, paranormal romance, contemporary romance et cetera. I'm not a fan of romantic heroes that are molded after Christian Grey or Edward Cullen.

I'm a native Dutch speaker, so if you have written your story in Dutch, I might be able to help you as well.

Non-Preferred Genres

While I love reading poetry, I don't feel I'm well equipped to beta read poems. Other than that, I decide on a case-by-case basis--if you tag me, I'm more than happy to check out the first chapter of your story and if I feel I might be able to help you, we can take it from there.

Relevant Experience

I'm a member of both the Rebel Town Book Club and Wonder Writers Book Club. I also have more than 5 years' experience as a book translator. As mistakes in the original version (changing eye or hair colors, discrepancies in the time line et cetera) are not supposed to end up in the translated version, I've developed a good eye for spotting continuity errors.

Projected Time Frame

I'm not a fast worker, but I am thorough. Depending on the length of your chapters, I think I can comfortably do between 2-3 chapters per week. Please bear in mind that I have a busy life outside Wattpad and as mother of 3 boys, emergencies can and do happen. However, should something happen, I'll definitely let you know.

Though it definitely isn't necessary for your story to be completed, I prefer working in batches of approx. 5 chapters, because it makes it easier for me to keep track of your story and spot plot holes/continuity errors.
