One of the better known stations on the Island of Sodor is Wellsworth Station, also well known as Edward's Station.
Many engines take passengers there, including Gordon's Express, and most of the main line trains. Some branch line trains depend on it too, and freight trains run through as well. It's a very busy station, and Edward is always ready to help out while working there.
(Edward is seen pushing Gordon up his Hill, and Hank and Connor can be seen going over the Hill too.)
One day, at Brendam Docks, Fergus the Railway Traction Engine delivered some trucks of clay and cement to be loaded onto a cargo ship.
"Haven't seen you around in a while." cranked Cranky.
(Big Mickey and Carly are seen.)
"Been busy, you see." greeted Fergus. "Must be off, sadly. I'm needed at the Cement Works."
Fergus trundled along the line to head back to the Cement Works. As the pride of the Cement Works, he is very proud of his work and is always keen to get things done right.
(He passes Donald and Douglas.)
But things were not right at Wellsworth Station. Henry had just dropped off some passengers there and he was running late.
"Hurry along, Henry." whistled Edward.
"Right away, Edward!" Henry puffed away.
(His passengers include the Lady with the Big Hat and one of Dowager Hatt's Friends. The Wellsworth Stationmaster can also be seen.)
Edward waited for Mavis to pass through with her quarry trucks, so he could shunt some coaches into the station once she had passed by.
But Mavis was running late. Her trucks were holding back as she went up Gordon's Hill.
(She passes Percy and James on the hill.)
Edward was getting worried.
"If Mavis doesn't pass soon, I can't get my passengers to the Docks on time." he said to himself.
Then Fergus passed.
"Hello, Edward." he said cheerfully. "What's the problem?"
"I need to get my coaches into the station." explained Edward. "But it isn't safe for me to do so until Mavis passes through, and she's late."
"I'll find her on my way back to the Cement Works. Don't worry." smiled Fergus.
Fergus went on and trundled up to the top of Gordon's Hill. He found Mavis stuck on the other side. She looked glum.
"My trucks are holding me back." she panted. "I can't get over the hill."
"Leave it to me." said Fergus kindly. "I'll buffer up to you, and we'll make those trucks do it right!"
"If you think you can." said Mavis worriedly.
Fergus changed to Mavis' line and coupled up.
"Let's go!" said Fergus.
Both friends heaved and hauled.
"HAHAHA! Hold back! Hold back!" laughed the Troublesome Trucks.
"Do! It! Right!" shouted Fergus severely.
But the trucks just kept laughing.
"Need a hand?" called a voice.
It was Thomas.
Thomas buffered up behind and helped the two engines in front by pushing.
Soon, the trucks were at the top and Thomas watched as they went down the other side.
"Hope I did it right, Fergus!" he called.
"You did, thank you, Thomas!" whistled Fergus.
But the trucks wouldn't give up too easily.
"On, on, on! Faster, faster!" they shrieked and cackled.
Mavis was now worried.
"Fergus, you're not strong enough to resist this many trucks downhill! And my brakes are barely working!" she cried.
"We must try, Mavis!" groaned Fergus as he braked. "WE. MUST. DO IT. RIGHT!"
But the two engines and their brakes were useless against the heavy trucks, and Fergus' brakes clanged and broke.
"Oh no!" he cried.
(They rush past a surprised Toby, Emily and Oliver.)
Edward gasped as the runaway train raced towards Wellsworth. He whistled a warning to the signalman, whom switched the points just in time to force Fergus, Mavis and the trucks into a siding in the goods yard. Fergus hit the buffers and bumped off the rails, and some of the trucks came off too, trapping Mavis between them.
"The station is in absolute disarray!" cried the Stationmaster.
Edward couldn't get his coaches past the derailed trucks, and Mavis and Fergus were stuck. Fergus felt terrible.
"I'm the pride of the Cement Works, but I'm useless at helping a friend in need." he said sadly.
"You did your best, Fergus." said Mavis kindly.
"And that's what counts." added Edward. "Now let's get you two out of this mess."
Edward got the Stationmaster to phone for help.
Harvey arrived and helped Fergus and the trucks back onto the rails. Thomas came too, and helped Mavis take her trucks to the Docks as a back engine.
Edward was able to shunt his coaches into place, and Harvey shunted Fergus to the Steamworks to have his brakes repaired.
Victor was happy to be of help to Fergus.
That evening, just as Fergus was fixed, Edward and Mavis came to see him.
"That accident and the rescue was a spectacle to my passengers." said Edward.
"They all thought you had been very brave trying to fight back against those Troublesome Trucks too." added Mavis.
"The passengers didn't mind being late because of that." said Edward. "Said they wouldn't have missed the action!"
"So, thank you for your help today, Fergus." smiled Mavis.
Fergus was delighted.
The next day, Fergus was back to work at the Cement Works. He was happy to be back where he belonged, and was happy that even though he isn't the strongest engine, he is still a helpful one. And he will always be the Pride of the Cement Works!
(The End!)
