"Congrats..." and "Good game!" I heard a series of Lady Falcons congratulating us during the handshake. We escaped another five-setter this season and this has been the toughest one so far in the season.

"Deans--" Ate Maddie called my attention as we walked to the locker room. "Parang nastare down mo kanina si Galanza."

"Hala... hindi ko maalala," I paused, trying to recall the incident. "If ever man, hindi ko sinadya."

My elation from winning turned to worry in an instant. I. Stared. Down. Jema. Galanza. The. Queen. Falcon.

"Humanda ka na sa bashers," joked my other teammates.

"Hey it's part of the game." Ate Bea patted me on the back. "Who wouldn't be emotional over a hard earned point right? Relax ka lang."

The thought that I might have offended someone bothered me the whole evening. I immediately sent Jema Galanza a message when I returned to Eliazo.

Deanna Wong: Hi po

I read a DM from Deanna Wong, the promising setter of the Lady Eagles. Other than the games between our schools, this is the first interaction we had.

Jema Galanza: Hi din po

I replied. I wondered why she was suddenly reaching out.

Deanna Wong: I am Deanna Wong, setter of the other blue bird team.

I chuckled.

Jema Galanza: Ang formal mo naman. Of course kilala kita! Lodi kaya kita.

Deanna Wong: Sorry... kinakabahan kasi ako.

Jema Galanza: Bakit? Hindi ako nangangagat, promise.

Deanna Wong: Pasensya ka na kanina. Nastaredown kita.

Her message made me smile. She seems too nice and polite. No one ever says sorry for those things--it's part of what they call the 'volleyball swag.'

Jema Galanza: Wala yun. Hindi ko na nga maalala. Pinaalala mo lang ngayon.

Deanna Wong: Oh gosh. I'm sorry again :(

Jema Galanza: No harm done

Deanna Wong: Nahihiya ako sa'yo nang sobra. Never have I imagined myself doing that to someone.

Jema Galanza: Okay lang talaga. Intense din kasi yung game kanina.

Deanna Wong: Oo nga eh. But at least let me make it up to you.

Jema Galanza: No need. Magsmile ka lang sa akin pag nagkasalubong tayo, solved na ko.

Deanna sent me a photo of herself with a forced smile, which is kinda cute.

Deanna Wong: Ayan oh. Pangit ng smile ko. Paano ako babawi nyan? How about we get coffee or milk tea?

Jema Galanza: Hindi naman pangit. Cute kaya! At dahil dyan peace na tayo kahit wala ng coffee or milk tea. Magaan loob ko sa'yo. :)

Deanna Wong: Ako rin. :) If ever you change your mind about my invitation, sabihan mo ako.

I just told her she's cute and now she probably finds it weird. I didn't reply and went offline out of panic!

I slept with a strange feeling in my chest as I found myself drawn to know more about her.
