Solve a riddle, lose a life (or a few)

"What. The. Fuck. Is going on?" I was seething with anger right now. I was on the phone with Dan and I had put him on speaker.

"I don't know," he sighed out. "No no no you better know. I'm trying to find out where my supposedly insane brother is and turns out, he's dead! And so is my sister! Who the fuck were you guarding then? Because I was assured that Athena would be safe," I was certain I was red with rage and I could see how the others were clearly pissed.

After all, they gave up a lot to help me and now this became a matter that concerned all of us. We had al formed a bond and we were certain that a shitstorm was coming soon. And we needed to be prepared.

"I'm trying to figure that out! I had two guys, Will and Bruce watch over her but I have no idea where the fuck they are now!" He was clearly frustrated and so was everyone else. "Who could've written the damn notes," Dan asked while I took rushed breaths. "Nicole. Has to be. Who else would do this?" "Yeah but why would she be behind you?" "DO I SOUND LIKE I FUCKING KNOW?" I screamed.

"Shh...shh...we'll figure something out alright," Chloe was currently rubbing my back as I cried and cried in anger. Frustration. Confusion. "Well, I just got some information on the two missing assholes. They're both dead and their bodies were left in a dumpster. One of my men found them there," Dan said.

"Okay listen, you guys have to stop this. You can't come any further. This is my fight, my problem. I'm not putting someone else's life in danger," I said while calming myself down. "OH NO YOU DON'T! You do NOT get to say that and do this shit alone! You're stuck with me, with us. No choice," Bert said firmly. "Why do you even care?" I ran my hands through my hair and looked up at him since I was currently sitting and he was standing.

"Let's see. You saved my life, my brother's life and my sister's life. You didn't say shit when you caught my lie. You spared Anna's life even though she told you all she knew. No matter what you say, or believe, you aren't all that heartless. And neither are we. Sure, he's your brother, but the second those bullets were firing at us in that motel, you should have known we're all in this. Whether you like it or not,"  Bert said while looking at me dead in the eyes.

"Except for the twins, they don't come," I said firmly. The twins protested but we paid no mind. "I agree," Chloe said and that caused even more outrage.

"BUT WE'RE ALREADY THIRTEEN!" They protested. "You guys are way too tiny for your age then. Also, you won't be completely useless. You two will be our chair guys," Bert told them.

"Like Ned in Spider-Man: homecoming?" The two asked. "Yeah, exactly," Chloe said.

"Huh, we're okay with that. Wait, how would we know what you're doing and all that?" Em asked. "We'll have bluetooth earpieces that'll ultimately be connected to the safe house where you guys will be with Dan," Bert said. "That's so freaking cool!" The twins gasped.

"Y'know, this is great and all, but we have no real plan. Where are we supposed to go next? Where would Nicole be?" Anna asked.

"Yeah about that, umm, in the apartment where Athena was supposed to be-" my eyes went blank at her name, "-there was another note left."

"What did it say?" I asked with a hoarse voice. "I uh-I'll just send you guys a picture," and about two seconds later all of our phones buzzed.

Dear sister-in-law,
I'm guessin you didn't know we got married. Suprise! I would invite you to the wedding, I really would but then the attention would go off of Hercules and I. But don't worry, our marriege didn't last long. Your pathetic parents ruined it. They killed Hercules, after we got married. The next day, that too. So I got my revenge. But now it's your turn sweetie.

I'm bored of going after the same brain dead bimbos, I need someonne new. And you, dearie, provide the perfect challenge. As for Athena, I'm sorry to say that she got lost in the crossfire. But that's on you for not keeping her safe enough. If you're wonddering how I have so many men working for me, it's simple. Your parents were part of a gang. I prefer the word 'mob' but whatever. Funny, considering you seem to have a a special involvement with another gang. I mean, you did kill a certain mob's leadders.

You better watch out, especially for your little boy toy. Star crossed lovers, that's what I'd call you. I trust you have the brains to figure out why.
Filled with hate, Nicole.

"Oh this is fucking amazing. She didn't give us shit on where to go!" Anna groaned.  "Also, was English her first language? This letter has so many spelling mistakes!" "Exactly. She's spelling it out for us. See? 'Guessing' has a g missing, 'surprise' has an r missing, 'marriage' has an e when it should be an a, 'someone' has an extra n, 'wondering' has an extra d, she wrote two a's rather than one before 'special involvement' and wrote there's an extra d in leaders,"

"She's really into puzzles, isn't she?" Bert said. "Yeah, looks like we gotta go find my grandad. Because one grandparent wasn't enough," I sighed. "Your grandad is alive? This makes things so much harder!" Em cried out. "Yeah, but that's why you're our chair guys. You gotta figure it out. We're spending the night here, and tomorrow Dan will pick you up. Or someone working for Dan," Hunter and Em just gave a thumbs up in response, already going back to their phones. I'm pretty sure they were playing PUBG or Fortnite, considering what I saw in the reflection on Em's glasses.

"Right, we gotta sleep in this dingy ass jeep. Night asswipes," Anna said while getting herself comfortable in the vehicle.

I fell asleep to the sounds of Fortnite (or PUBG) and all I could think of was how I failed to protect Athena.
