Prologue.

The camellia glowed as it floated in the water. Gently it lay upon the fluid, still glass. The reflection of the wolves' sun was bright amidst the darkness, and several of these wolves howled in respect to their sun. For this time in this year, Shadows revealed the crescent. The shadows threatened to cover it. But for this night, the power of the wolves' sun was enough to give greater light in reflection to this camellia.

The girl's smile lingered on after the tears had fallen. She remembered the words of one dear to her. 'The illness that is greater than death is losing our memories of what is most precious to us.'

A light hum of crickets filled the air. The girl cleaned away the scars of unhinged emotions.

The girl stood up. Soon the predators of night would come out to hunt for prey. Though this sight was her heart's peace, this was a formality now, it was once a tradition.

The child like nature of Cassandra Evans was no more. As she turned away from the lake, a sense of resolution was brighter in her mind than the glow of that camellia, but her heart was darker than the shadow of the wolves' sun.

  Cassandra had shed her last tears.
