Trigger Warning

The next few chapters involve a high school shooting. At the time I was writing this, school shootings in America were not as much of a problem as they are today. I realize that this section of the story is poorly written and tasteless on my part. At the time, school shootings were not common. With what happened in Parkland and now Santa Fe, I feel a responsibility to express my thoughts on this section of the story. I do not support guns at all. I don't ever want to imagine what a shooting is like, and my heart goes out to every family ever affected by these senseless acts. I wrote this solely for the plot only, and just because I wrote it in a story does not make it okay. Children's lives are valued. School should be a safe place. Guns were made to kill.
As a future educator, I am repulsed at my past writing. If you wish to skip this section of the story, feel free to skip to Chapter 63. This apology/statement was not prompted by anything other than myself.
