Secrets Revealed

Matsuda must've heard my stomach grumbling because instead of home, he led me to a ramen shop.

I silently followed him.

We ordered ramen bowls.
We got them soon, steaming hot.

Wow, that looks delicious!!

Matsuda broke the silence "Why is L always like that? I too helped in Kira case.." he looked at me carefully hoping not to have hurt me by mentioning Kira.

"Who knows? I mean, I too helped in that case..." Oops...

"What?!" Matsuda seemed shocked.

"I mean .. you..you must've been so helpful during the case..." I tried to handle the situation.

"No. You said YOU helped in the case too." Matsuda was definitely not buying it.

And they think he's stupid.

"Ohk... I didn't help..like directly... I just ..stayed quiet you know... I know when there's someone in my brother's room. I think it was probably Mirai..." I explained.

That reminds me,where IS Mirai anyway? It's like she vanished into thin air or something...

"Mirai?! You know her?!" Now Matsuda was definitely surprised.

"Ya...she helped me carry my books to home once..and I remember how she smelled..ya I know it's weird but I remember cuz there was something different about her...and one day when I had to go out with mom and I had forgotten my umbrella at school, I went in...his room...to borrow his umbrella and I noticed that piece of paper and lead and his booby traps were not there. So I knew someone was in there. When I opened his cupboard, some of his clothes were lying in a mess...he is not like that, he never leaves his clothes like that but then I had become suspicious of him...and distant too...just then I realised that there was some different scent there. Then I thought it must be something to do with investigation and I decided to stay quiet.That's how I helped. But I know for sure it was Mirai. It was definitely Mirai there." I explained it all in one breath.

Now Matsuda was genuinely stunned.

After a few seconds, he came back to his senses and muttered " That day...I was there too...right under the bed. We were putting up surveillance in his room."

Then it was my turn to be..

Strangers...told ya'!

"Well it's in the past now...where is Mirai , by the way?" I said.
"I have no idea." Matsuda said quietly.

I felt a slight pang of jealousy...but it didn't last long. Maybe she was just his friend you know...

We finished our bowls quietly and paid for them.

It had started drizzling outside.

"You are quite brilliant, Sayu." Matsuda said.

Again, jun-shook.
"Oh come on, not as much as you!" Where did this modesty come from?
Why am I like this around him? Not...stupid?

He threw his head back laughing like a little kid.

"Then you are the only one who thinks so" he said between his laughs.

"So you know what EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS WORLD thinks of you.. brilliant." I didn't mean to be sarcastic but I didn't like him underestimating himself either.

"No. I don't.." he became serious again.

And then, just like that, he kissed me.
Full on lips.
Right there.
On the sidewalk.

Was I supposed to back away?
I don't care.
I'm on cloud 9.
With him,  I'm truly ..alive.
