Kioku's story

I am kioku. I am a bridle greyhound and today is the biggest race that ever happened to me. My competitions are zero, yuki, nila, kiara, and mirra. Zero, for now, is that he fastest race dog in history, his descendant's won every national race know to dog kind! But that's about to change. I am a little cocky when it comes to raising but hey imma girl what do you expect? The race is about to start, all the dogs are put behind the bars. My adrenaline rushing, my heart pounding in my chest, but not in fear oh no, no, no, but in excitement. I can hear the announcer call our name, number, and owner. I'm kioku, number 3, my owner is Charles Amory. Then the moment I had been waiting for the announcer said 

"ok, in 3...2...1...GO!" 

I shot out of the gate like a bullet from hell, but I stayed behind everyone else for now. It was me, mirra, yuki, nila, and kiara right behind zero. Right at first quarter i pass mirra and yuki. At second quarter I pass nila and kiara. I'm neck to neck with zero at third quarter I shoot pass him. Half way to the finish line tho I hear a snap. I tumble past the finish line,  yes I had won but something didn't feel right. I couldn't feel my back left leg with all the pain i blacked out. When I woke up I was in a hospital room, well humans call it a vets office dogs call it a hospital room, i couldn't move and I was in a cage with dogs and cats in cages on top and beside me. I didn't have anything better to do so I listened in on my owners conversation. What I heard shattered my heart he said "if she can't get me the money I want. She needs to be put down." I heard foot steps come to my cage, thinking it was someone who was sent to put me down I wimperd. i heard a little girl she was sweet she was saying 

"Awww hi baby girl are you ok? " I nod my head in a dog way 

"if no one else wants you I do" i did a doggy smile she was adorable and she wanted a broken dog!!!! And not for money.  

"MOMMY" she yelled making me flinch. Her mom walked over and said 

"yes hon?" 

" I want her mommy, pweeeeese? " her mom looks down at me and reads the paper on the cage 

"kioku? But hon this is a race dog not a family pet" she said to her daughter 

"so what mommy? She is still a puppy that needs a home if not, they will kill her" she said whispering the last part. Her mom sighed 

"ok Maya we can get her" I wagged my tail in agreement 

"yay thank u mommy, I love u" she hugged her mom. That night I was taken home and got a prosthetic leg. I wanted to keep racing so I tried asking my owner to enter me but she doesn't know doggyish I guess. So I grabbed a newspaper and put my paw on the race spot. She looked where my paw is 

"you want to keep racing?" I bark a yes 

" ok... But you have to train. " the past months I had been training I succeeded all the minor races and now it's time for the final one. My contestants are Zero, mel, kari, milan, kio, and chain. Chain is my old owners dog. Zero, again, is the fastest. I got disqualified bc of the broken leg and amputation. Now it's pay back and time to gain back my place. We were out in our crates the announcer said our owner, number, and name.

 "Kioku our once former champion race dog but had to get an amputation and is still recovering will she be able to win?", number: 1, owner: Daniela Kane. Again the an ounce said 

"ok, in 3...2...1...GO!" I shot out the gate . Staying behind the pack. We passed first quarter so I picked up speed and ran past mel and kio. We passed second quarter and I passed kari, milan and chain,who was in second, key word 'was' I am now neck to neck with zero at third quarter I shot passed him, as he was slowly gaining I ran faster I shot past the finish line zero not far behind. I skidded to a stop and huffed at zero who snarled at me. I snarled back and he lunged for me. But thank s to the chain muzzle he did no damage. I hit my head into his stomach causing him to lower his head in submission. My owner and Maya walked over to me and congratulated me. Charles walked over and said 

"hmmmm, nice dog you got there , how much do you want her for?" He reached down to one me but I snapped at his had and growled unfortunately I can't bite his hand. Daniela laughed 

" she doesn't particularly like you does she? Any way she's not for sale so you can take you mutts and leave us alone. " she smiled and said 

"bye bye" with that she turned on her heals and walked away with me and Maya not far behind. Charles scowled at her before doing the same.
