"Come on kids, stop lagging and keep moving your feet," the tour guide called with almost no enthusiasm at all.

I sighed, putting a hand to my head. I was too old for these little-kid tours, why can't my parents understand that?

"Now you can see here on the walls of the pyramid, ancient Egyptian writing is scrawled all over them."

A little girl raised her hand. "Sir, what does the writing say?"

The tour guide, whose name tag read "Larry," tapped his hairy chin. "Uuhhh, um, uh...when you die they pull your brain out through your nose. Now come on!"

"Eeewwww"s were heard amongst the group. We kept walking. This tour guide obviously doesn't know a thing about Egypt.

"You, big kid in the back--"

He had to have been talking to me. I rolled my eyes and pointed to the name tag resigning on my left shoulder: "Abbey."

"--Abbey, can you tell me what year the pharoh who was buried in this tomb before grave robbers, you know, stole his body, died? You must've learned this in school. What are you in, 6th grade or something?"

"First off, I'm not a 'big kid.' The proper word is 'adult.' Second, 8th grade. And third, no, I didn't learn this. I have no idea who the heck was buried here anyway."

Larry leaned in close to my ear. "Parents force you to come?"

"Totally."

He cringed. "I know the feeling. My parents made me get a job here when I don't know a single thing about Egypt. It's not obvious, is it?"

"No, definitely not obvious." I crossed my arms. I knew it; this dude's got no idea what he's doing.

Larry stood back in front of the group. "Now keep moving, people! Try to stay together and don't go wandering off to sealed off areas, this place is still a bit...undiscovered."

Undiscovered, eh? I have a knack for wandering off and getting into trouble, so this is my que.

When you're the tallest kid in the bunch, it's not so simple trying to sneak away from groups of tiny people. I had to do this just right...

Larry pointed to some hieroglyphs. "And here is where the Indians--I mean the Egyptians drew when they were bored..."

My steps slowed and I gradually fell back from the others. Smiling in triumph, I turned around and went down a dark and dusty hallway. It seemed to go on forever, the light of day growing further and further from me until it was pitch black. I pulled out my keychain light from my backpack, shining it around. A sign and a makeshift wooden fence blocked my path, the sign reading: "DO NOT ENTER, NONPROTECTED AREA." The gate seemed to be made hastily; only the slightest touch caused the rotten wood to crack.

"Well, no where to go but forward." Simply hopping over the old gate, I ventured on further, the stench of the so-called "hallway" growing more horrid. "Uck, this reeks!"

My foot slipped on a rock, and suddenly I was free falling downwards. I fell down a hole!?

I glanced to the left and right, picking a side to try and slow down on. My nails dug into the pit's rocky side, begging for a chance to slow my falling pace. My shoes tried desperately as well.

I guess it worked slightly, but I still landed hard on my butt.

I grunted while rubbing my pained cheeks. My eyes went to the single lit torch attached to the side of the pit. I picked it up from its holder, shining it around me.

"What the heck?" The torch's light landed on a pedestal with some weird monkey-shaped vase or something. Its eyes looked like they were glowing jewels. I stepped closer, setting the torch on the ground and picking up the monkey. Its eyes stared so deep into me, it felt like it was ripping out my soul.

It was like a trance; I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Before I could realize it, the room around me was twisting, and I was being transported to somewhere. I wasn't lucid enough to make sense of whatever was going on, but I could tell it wasn't normal. I clung onto the monkey-vase as if my life depended on it.

All I wanted to do was land. Somewhere, anywhere. It was like being in limbo; eternal nothingness and in a state of confusion.

One blink and it was over. I was lying down in the middle of...a park? It looked like one, with nice grass, trees everywhere, and benches with residents sitting on them.

The monkey-vase was still in my hands. Stuffing it in my backpack, I just ran for it. Is it really considered "stealing" if the monkey took me somewhere itself, going along with me? I hope not.
