Chapter Sixteen: Holy Place

Ailsa POV

Once Shauna drops us off, I ask Chèe to do a chant specifically to ward off evil spirits(aka Ramanga). "K.", she says simply. I also ask Luke and Daniel to keep an eye out while she does it. I'm keeping an eye out on her and what she's doing. The last thing we need is for things to go completely away from our original strategy.

Chèe quickly lights a two candles and places them on the ground, an indigo one and a white one. She calls over Daniel and Luke. She hands me two other candles and a purple and brown. She hands Daniel a green and a black. She then finally hands Luke a large gold one."Pass matches quickly.", she says.

She continues to dig into her satchel and she finally pulls out some oil and after Luke places the gold candle on the ground, sprinkles the oil over the candle. I'm transfixed with the flame as it grows larger and brighter for a short moment. "God I hope this shit works", I think.

I hear Chèe say a chant, but I have no clue what she is saying. As I'm watching her, I start hearing steps too. But not only footsteps. Steps that sound like they're from paws too. I sniff the air and so does Daniel. He nods. He and I both know immediately it's the same hybrids that attacked us before. But there are definitely a bunch more than the last time. Last time at the most there were fifteen. Tonight at the least it's fifty.

Once Chèe is done she says, "Ok done." She then dust her hands off on her pants. Then after taking a whiff of the air she says, "Eww." "Those are what you call hybrid rogues.", I whisper to her. I also tell her."Shhh, if you listen closely you can hear their breathing, their footsteps even their heartbeat. If you make sure you're always listening and smelling. You should mostly be ok." She nods.

I spoke to soon, because all of sudden a rogue hybrid jumps out shadows directly at Chèe. The distance between them is getting smaller and smaller....then BOOM. I know that shit had to hurt. I now know exactly what happened to Shauna earlier. It happened to me in Haiti too.

Just as he was about to make contact with Chèe, there was a loud thunderous boom. It was from him colliding into the invisible protection shield that's surrounding Chèe(thanks Papa) and now he's in absolute shock flying backwards.

Chèe didn't even notice him until she heard the noise. She looks a me shocked. We don't have anytime to take to the pleasure of enjoying his suffering. His friends were closing in fast. "Ok, lets move." I say this as I was just about to lead the rogues right into a full out assault from our entire pack. We're stronger together, so pulling the rogues to the middle of the yard to face all of us gives us a better chance.

I hear Shauna out of nowhere say, "Trust me." "Trust her?", I think. She only says that before she does something she knows I'd be brassed about. I look up to see where she is and then I see why she said that. She takes off after EJ we all see it. "Goddammit.", I think. So naturally we all take off after her. "Shauna NO!!", Anther, Dani and Dixon yell. I was about to yell too. But then I start to hear all these clicking sounds as if they're a whole bunch of guns that are now locked and loaded.

So I shift. But by now EJ is now holding Shauna by throat. It's EJ physically holding her but I'm almost certain that's actually Ramanga. She got around the spell(How in the hell does she keep doing this?). I ready myself to do something I told everyone else in the pack (including Shauna) specifically not to do. Go play hero. It's my wife there's no way in hell I'm gonna just sit here. Right as I'm about to go, I see a laser on me.

I quickly follow it back to the source to see there's about twenty sniper and assault rifles pointed at all of the members in the pack and also at everyone in Shauna's family.
