Thanos walked up the rocky slope of Nornheim. The wind blew in his face, kicking up dirt and small rocks. His big boots made imprints in the ground, and left huge marks. Thanos was not called the Titan for nothing. He was eight feet tall, with large hands, and an imposing bearing. But, he was not so powerful that he could fortell the future. That was why he was on this distant planet, seeking the aid of the Norns: the Norse Goddesses of Fate. They had to tell him what he wanted to hear.

When he reached the top of the hill, flat, stone ground stretched out before him. Three stone chairs were sitting twenty yards away from him. Three women sat in those chairs. One was a beautiful red head, her hair only down to her shoulders. The second had brown hair, going down to her middle back. The third, was a blond, whose tresses reached down to her knees. They were the Norn Sisters: Wyrd, Verdandi, and Skuld. They were old, older than Odin, but their faces were youthful. At that moment, their eyes were closed, but Thanos knew that they sensed his presence. "A small matter brings you here to us, Thanos," Wyrd said without opening her eyes.

"It's not a small matter to me," Thanos answered. All three of them laughed, musical, lilting laughter that grated on Thanos' ears.

"The God of Mischief must have really wounded your Titan pride, if you seek vengeance with his child," Verdandi pointed out.

"But it's not just his child anymore, is it?" Thanos asked, and the Norns looked up at him for the first time. Their eyes had no color. They were utterly black and empty. They held the expanse of the past, the present, and the future, and such, their souls were lost.

"If you know so much already, why come to us?" Skuld queried. Thanos laughed a little as he approached them, his gloved hands clenching and unclenching in front of him.

"Because I have to be sure. I thought I was sure before, and I was not given what I was promised. I don't want to make the same mistake again," Thanos responded. The Norn Sisters closed their eyes again and bowed their heads. A few seconds later, they threw their heads back. Their eyes opened as did their mouths, and they were clutching the arms of their chairs. Thanos smiled as he waited for them to tell him what he suspected.

"The Daughter of Mischief will not be Loki's only weak point!" they all said at the same time.

"She has conceived a child with the mortal archer!" Wyrd said.

"Loki will love the child despite his father!" Verdandi continued.

"Through the child, you will bring down the God of Mischief!" Skuld finished. Thanos smirked wickedly, bowed to the ladies, and turned to leave.

"But be warned!" the Norns called out and Thanos stopped. "The Daughter of Mischief will rise up in his place, and her flame will be harder to stifle!"

"Well, we'll just see about that," Thanos muttered as he walked away from them. He vanished into the swirling mists of Nornheim.
