Anne Eve’s POV

I looked to Erik as he glared at Christine.  I took a small step forward, “Christine, please.” She shook her head, “No!” Erik dropped our cases and stepped in front of me as I spoke, “Christine we are leaving together and I don’t care if you like it or not.” Christine ignored me then turned on Erik, “Why did you stop loving me? When? What did she do? I could fix that. She can be easily taken care of.” Christine took a step toward Erik and Erik cautiously took two back with me still behind, “No Christine. I Loved the voice, its beauty, innocence, and everything else. I wasn’t sure about you though. When I found the real woman behind the voice I fell in love for not only her voice but her. You are not her and it is not her fault that I do not want, or never did love you.” I placed my hand on Erik’s shoulder as he put an arm around my waist. She glared at us but then we all heard something move in the water. Erik must have seen what it was first as he sung in a mocking voice, “Wait I think my dear we have a guest.” I looked over Erik’s shoulder and saw Raoul at the gated entrance. I looked to Christine, who looked at Raoul and growled, “Raoul, I told you not to come.” He ignored Christine as he sang, “Free her do what you like only free her.” I shook my head he still did not know what was going on. He thought Erik had done all this for Christine.  He was still was in the water when he stopped and saw where everyone was positioned.

Raoul’s face became a jumbled one and Christine tried to cover up, “He has Ann. Raoul what am I to do?” He looked to me and I shook my head, “I want to be here Raoul. This is the man I belong with.” I looked up to Erik and smiled as he smiled down at me. Then I turned to Christine, “I think it’s time for the truth.” She crossed her arms over her chest, pouted, and looked away from everyone, “I don’t know what you are talking about.” I shook my head and turned to Raoul, “Christine and I have not been completely honest with you or anyone else. Christine cannot sing I have been her voice for the last few years.”

Raoul looked confused after the information I gave him so I continued, “I have always been hiding nearby singing for Christine. Like the night after the gala of the first opera she starred in. You came to her room with flowers and talked of your picnics in the attic when father would play the violin I was hiding behind the divider in her room. The night on the roof top when you told Christine you loved her I was behind a statue sing.  I was there always.”  Raoul looked to Christine, “It was all a lie?” Christine looked shocked, her eyes grew large, and she tried to shake her head. She put her hands up, “Raoul I…” I jumped in, “All the words were true.” I felt Erik’s grip around my waist tighten as I quickly continued, “They were hers that came from a different source like a vocal letter.” Raoul looked down then looked back to me and Erik, “What does he have to do with all this and how’s he going to pay for what he has done in the process.” Horror crossed my mind. Raoul had forgotten Christine and moved his target to Erik. I looked up to him then looked back down to the water. Raoul had started moving through the water.

I put up my hands, “Wait! Raoul please don’t.” He paused, “Why then did he cause this entire thing and for what?” Erik stepped in, “For her. I did it for Anne Eve. Christine abused her and I had to get her out of the situation. This started to happen after I realized I loved her after the night of IL Muto.”  I smiled as I remember that night. Raoul clenched his fists in frustration, “Someone has to pay for all the destruction. Who started this all?” I looked down, I knew who it was. I raised my eyes and looked to Christine. All she did was smiled and raise her hand to point at me. She said, “She did it all, punish her.” I looked back down to my feet as Erik pulled me fully behind him and started to speak but I stopped him, “Erik, please don’t.” I knew if he said anything it would be him taking the blame. I couldn’t let him do that. I’d rather take the blame and let him be free for once in his life. I looked up, “I started it all I am the one to blame just let Erik go free.” To save Erik I was willing to face imprisonment and even death.

Raoul was now out of the water and behind Christine. Erik had a strong grip on my arm still. I felt a tear roll down my cheek and I swallowed the lump in my throat. I turned to face Erik with my back to Raoul and Christine. I placed a hand on each side on his face, “Erik you have to let me go. You can leave now be free, my angel.” He shook his head, “I can’t I just got you.” I also shook my head, “Then you won’t have to.” I took my hand, placed it on his, and then reluctantly pulled it off of my arm. I placed it by his side. He looked more broken then the night on the roof. Tears rolled down my face as I took the first step away from him.  I looked him straight in the eyes as I kept walking backwards, “Be free for us. Please.” He shook his head, “Not without you.” I shook my head as I bumped into someone. Next I heard Christine, “See if I can’t have you no one can.” Fresh tears started to flow more freely as I felt Raoul grab my arm and harshly pull me back. I heard him kicked the switch to let the gates up, which had closed after his entrance. He then pulled me back until we reached the water. Erik hadn’t move from his spot and his eyes were still glued to mine.

Raoul wobbled my arm, “Get in the boat.” I looked down at the boat at my feet and reluctantly climbed in. Raoul climbed in then Christine forced her way in behind him. Raoul had a tight grip on my arm still as he pushed off and started to paddle away. I looked back to Erik as we left the lair he was still in the same place. I mouthed I love you. Then he fell out of sight.
