Reader's Point of View

I was walking on the beach, watching the waves crash over the sand, and looking out towards the sunrise, hugging my arms.

"You'll catch a cold without a jacket." His voice rang through the morning air. Not turning around, I looked up to the sky and replied, with disinterest,

"I wanted to watch the sunrise. Besides, aren't you supposed to be resting up for the game tonight, Gordon?"

"I was thinking about proposing to Tana." Gordon blurted out, not surprising me and making me nod, in understanding.

"You should do it. You love her, she loves you." I told him, my head screaming at me to tell him how I felt and he walked to my side, asking,

"I can count on you to be at the wedding, yes? I mean you're my best friend." Looking up into those beautiful blue eyes, I smiled and nodded, replying,

"Of course." I caressed his cheek and whispered, trying to hide my emotions,

"Of course I'll be there. I'm your best friend and Tana is my friend." He looked down into my eyes and smiled, nodding. Pulling away from him, we walked along the beach for another hour and I stopped, eventually. He looked back at me and asked, worried,

"What's wrong?"

"I'm-uh..."

"What is it?"

"After medical school, I'm moving to America."

"You're- That's good. I'm happy for you."

Time Skip to the Wedding

I had on a gray knee length dress, silver heels, light makeup, and my hair was curled. I was standing towards the back, watching Gordon and Tana dance, smiling softly.

"Champagne, miss?" One of the waiters asked, holding a tray in one hand and offering me a glass with the other. Taking the glass, I held it in my hands and walked outside, looking up into the night sky.

"You're always looking up to the sky, what are you trying to find up there?" Gordon asked from behind me, I could basically hear his smirk and I sighed, replying,

"I look up when I need time to think." Looking at him, I smiled at him and commented,

"You look very handsome, Gordon."

"Thank you. You look beautiful (Y/N)." He replied, smiling and tilting his head to the side, childishly. My chest tightened, from the emotion, and I looked at the ground, walking past him. I placed my hand on his chest and walked back into the room, but he grabbed my wrist.

"Are you sure you want to leave?" He asked, almost trying to keep me in England and I slipped my wrist out of his hand, saying,

"Yes...I'm leaving at the end of the month."

"The end of the...That's kind of-"

"Excuse me, Gordon." I interrupted, walking back into the building and looking for Tana. When I found her, I smiled and hugged her, saying,

"You look gorgeous, Tana."

"As do you, (Y/N)! Simply, beautiful!" Tana exclaimed, smiling at me and walking to one of the tables with me.

"Actually, I came to tell you something, Tana."

"Of course. What is it, (Y/N)?"

"So, I'm leaving in a little while."

"Leaving?"

"Yeah, I'm going to America. Take care of my best mate, like you always do. Promise me?"

"Of course. I'm sure he's upset." She concluded, making me chuckle and shake my head, replying,

"He's very upset."

"Very upset." Gordon's voice confirmed, making Tana smile as she looked up and I turned to him, sighing. A slow song began to play and Tana suggested,

"Gordon, go dance with (Y/N) before she leaves." I looked at her and blushed, asking,

"What?"

"You two should go dance." She repeated, making Gordon chuckle and respond,

"Good idea. (Y/N)? May I have this dance?" He held his hand out to me and I looked at Tana, wanting confirmation. She nodded and I took his hand, walking out onto the dance floor. He placed a hand on my waist, the other holding my hand. I placed a hand on his shoulder and held his hand, blushing.

"I really don't want you to leave, (Y/N)." He confided, looking down at me and I looked down, watching our feet.

"It'll be easier to start my practice." I said, not looking up and he sighed, saying,

"I'll miss you." Looking up at him, I nodded and mumbled,

"I'll miss you too, mate." As the song ended, I pulled away from his embrace and walked over to the corner, waiting for the night to end.

As I was leaving, I hugged Tana and when I hugged Gordon, he held onto me.

"Stay in contact with me." He whispered, making tears threaten to fall out of my eyes and I nodded, saying,

"Ok-ay."

I left for the states at the end of the month and before I left, Gordon saw me off.

"It's not too late to change your mind." He suggested, looking hopeful and I shook my head, saying,

"I'll see you around, Gordon." I kissed his cheek and looked up at him, his eyes glistening with emotion. I walked onto the plane and I could hear him audibly sigh.

Gordon texted me all the time and called me twice daily. When I got to the states, I moved into a small apartment in (town of choice) and began looking for either a building for sale or a position open at a good clinic/hospital. I found a job at a local hospital and began to save money for my own clinic. About a year or so after moving to the states, I found a business building for sale and I bought it, to start a clinic.

One day, I got an early phone call from Gordon.

"Hullo?" I answered, sleepily and when I heard his voice, say,

"Hullo, (Y/N). I know, you were alseep. But Tana and I would like you to come to England for a week or so. If you will?"

"Gordon, I'm renovating a business building for a clinic this week."

"You've got a building already?"

"Yeah, but...uh...why? What's happened?"

"Tana and I had a child, we wanted you to meet her."

"Oh...Congratulations, Gordon. Boy or girl?"

"Girl. Her name is Megan."

"That's amazing Gordon. Look, I've to be up in a few hours...I'll talk to you in a little while."

"Okay.."

Hanging up, I rolled back over onto my side and closed my eyes, again. However, I opened my eyes and threw my legs over the side of the bed, grabbing my robe. As I tied the robe, I walked out onto my balcony and hugged myself, looking at the sky.

The next week, I opened my clinic and I began to stop answering the phone calls. Gordon and I began to talk less because of the businesses we were in. I followed his travels and watched his shows, but I stayed to myself to take care of my life and my patient's lives first.
