The blue and red lights were flashing outside my window, lighting up the sky. A police car had pulled up to the house opposite mine, and  a door opened. On the side closest to me, the drivers side, a police man stepped out the car and walked around the front to the passenger side. He opened the door and bent in, pulling something out the seat. By this point, neighbours had opened their front doors and were standing in their porches and on their steps, including me. There wasn't normally much commotion.

Soon, it became clear that it was a person almost being dragged out the seat. I could hear unclear voices, and a struggle. Eventually, the person was out the car, in cuffs and being marched up the stairs to the house opposite mine. The officer tapped on the door, which soon swung open.

Just before he was dragged inside, he turned his head and stared. His gaze looked distant, until it met mine. He winked, just before the door slammed behind him, trapping the one thing I couldn't have behind it.
