In the episode "Little Dude" when Finn's hat possesses a candy person, he grows huge muscles, his clothes rip, and he ends up looking a lot like Susan. I think that Susan's hat possessed her, but kinda wore off by the time Finn and Jake meet her. This explains why she wants to eat all the candy people and not just things like the ground, houses, ect.
