I let him walk me all the way home yesterday, partially because (whether I would like to admit it or not) I was still shaken up from the whole ordeal. However, it was mostly because somewhere along our conversation we held as we walked I forgot he was a stranger. There's something about him I can't quite put my finger on.
And it's utterly mind-consuming.
We had arrived at the front of my apartment building in the yellow glow of the streetlights. Little snowflakes began to softly fly about, catching themselves in the strands of my hair whipping in the wind.
"Aren't you cold?" I asked him, burying my face into my scarf as we stood outside the glass doors.
Spider-man tapped his chest and laughed a bit, "There's a heater in here."
"Seems like you have everything in there."
He looked off for a split second then replied, "Yeah. It's...It's something."
"Well, thanks for making sure I didn't die. I'll see you around then."
He gave me a little wave, "Sure thing. See ya."
I was halfway through the doorway when I heard him call out again, "Wait, uh. What's your name?"
I stopped and turned. "___."
The words that came from his mouth next were sudden. He stood rigidly still. "I saw the thing you did with the bullet."
My chest pulled tight like a drum. "You can't tell anyone about that."
"You haven't told anyone?"
I laughed a pained, panicked laugh. "If I'd told anyone I would be in a mental facility right now."
"You don't have to worry. It's safe with me."
I sighed out desperately. "Who are you?"
His voice deflated, "I...I can't tell you that."
"Then can you at least tell me that you're not like a creepy, thirty-year-old man or something?"
A few chuckles escaped his masked lips. "I'm not thirty or a creep. I'm in high school. I swear."
"Okay, okay. I don't know why but I trust you. Thank you again."
