The night was dark and cloudless, with no sign of the moon in the sky. The atmosphere was set for pure evil, and helicopters hovered around Ishikawa, Japan. The Krauts came down from the helicopters in the dark of the night. Moments later I heard a clicking sound and suddenly BOOM!

The cottage besides ours blew up into a million pieces and sparks flew through the midnight sky.

"Ima, koko kara deru!"Our father yelled.I had never heard him so scared in my life. His face was struck with horror and anguish. Mother was in tears and grandpa lead everybody to the front door. Not knowing what was happening, I blindly followed my father’s yelled commands.

As Grandpa stepped out, SWOOSH! KWAHCK! Some Krauts fired at his chest and I could hear the breaking of his ribs as he fell to the ground, blood gushing out of his heart, and closing the door behind him. Tears fell uncontrollably from my eyes as I scrambled back into the cottage.

Dad picked up a Kama and grimly handed our rusty ancestral katana to me. Crying uncontrollably, I looked at him, tears blurring his face, not knowing that it would be the last time I would be seeing him.

Eyes moist, he hugged me and my nine siblings and quickly led us out through the back door. We fled from the battlefield, running into the forests, sprinting wildly through the fields.Suddenly, dad saw something or someone and he told me to take care of my siblings as he handed me baby Rio.

He rushed towards the end of the fields, holding his Kama firmly in his hands, weapon ready to attack as two shadowy figures emerged from the forests with bayonets. With one swift movement my father managed to cut off the right hand of one the soldiers and he yelled in German as he fell, but his fellow lunged forward to stab Dad. I couldn't bear to watch that part.

I forcibly shut my eyes and led my siblings to the other side of the fields with mother. While she led the way, I walked beside her, gripping the ancestral katana firmly in my hands. I handed baby Rio to one of the siblings as I wanted to defend my mother from the Krauts.

We ran into the bushes and two more shadowy figures emerged with bayonets. I froze in place, totally freaked out and not knowing what to do. A part of my mind told me to fight and take revenge for my father, my neighbourhood, and my country while another part of me wanted to run back to the cottage and hide under the blanket.Well, I did not get much time to think as one of the invaders lunged forward.

I instinctively jerked left to avoid the blow. However, I was not wholly successful as the knife grazed my right, drawing blood.  I groaned with pain as blood dripped down my chest and I slashed my sword with renewed vengeance at the second soldier, who, in his overconfidence, was not expecting an attack. Somehow, despite years of disuse, the rusty blade in my hands managed to cut through the flesh and bone of his neck with ease, separating the head from the body..  I watched, fascinated, as the head of my first ever kill fell to the floor, eyes full of shock looking at me before glazing over, the expression of disbelief permanently etched on his face. His body stayed standing, motionless, for a moment before crumpling down next to the head.

Suddenly, I heard the other Kraut murmur something in German. Whirling around, I raised my bloody sword, ready to attack.

Only, to my horror, I saw the man standing behind my mother, holding a large combat knife to her throat. Smiling sadistically, the German drew the knife across, cleanly slitting my mother’s throat.

Throwing her dying body to the side, he raised his bloody knife at me in challenge, as if to say that I was next.

Rage coursing through my veins, I ran at him, screaming wildly. Somehow, I managed to avoid his knife as I crashed into the German.

We landed on the hard ground, with me on top of him. Not thinking twice, I stabbed him with my sword. I had now killed twice.

I heard a few more "SWOOSH!"s and I turned around to find another Kraut sprinting through the field firing wildly at anything in his sight. I led my siblings into the forest, where I spotted a small hut not more than 200 yards away. Not pausing to think, I ran with all my strength, dragging my siblings behind me, unmindful of the blood dripping through my shirt mixed with the Asian dirt.

I think I was about fifty yards away from the cottage when I blacked out.
