Evie sat on the blanket in the yard while Rocky cooked on the grill. She leaned back on her hands, taking in the summer sunshine. Smokey padded over to her, laying on the blanket and resting his head on her lap. She stroked his long ears and sighed contentedly.
Her whole life was right here. She came to live and die by managing the Keller Yard, her love was right by her side through it all, she'd had a loyal companion in her lap, and there would be a baby soon. Just a year ago, she'd dreamed of leaving the junkyard to find what she was missing, but instead it all found her.
