it was 5:00 in the morning and she was already up

she got up to go to work

did she need to work?

no, her adoptive parents had plenty of money

and they had already payed off her mothers hospital bills

but they couldn't pay off the guilt she felt from since her mother died

so she made herself a promise to get a job, and make her mom proud of her

not that she needed to do anything to make her proud

today was going to be different though

it would be the first time she went into a new school, and her mother wasn't gonna be there to to give her the famous vincent family pancakes

oh how she missed those pancakes

but this morning she wouldn't have any

she would make herself something to eat at work, after sweeping and wiping down the tables

her boss was also the cook in the morning, and he sometimes made her breakfast

and he knew about the famous pancakes her mom once made

so he surprised her with pancakes, made to the best of his ability

it made her very happy

and it gave her strength

strength she thought she could never have again

her mother had died the week after she started 6th grade

it was hard for her and her stepfather

but it hit him even harder

the woman that he had fallen in love with was taken away from him in the blink of an eye

so he did what no one else thought he would ever do

he took his own life

lauren had gone from one parent to no parents in less than 2 weeks

she then started acting out by skipping school, stealing, and shutting everyone out

it was like that until the orlandos offered to adopt her that her life completely changed

she and mackenzie had always been friends with johnny

but she never thought he would soon be her brother

she and kenzie had always been closer to each other

johnny had kinda always been there

they had to encounter all the awkwardness of seeing each other everyday

plus, lauren knew that johnny was in love with kenzie

he never came out and said it, but she knew that he cared for kenzie more than he would ever care for her

not that it mattered anyways; she had always thought of john as a brother

to makes things worse, kenzie constantly friend and sibling zoned him

but of course, there needed to be another person to be caught up in this whole "love triangle"

his name was hayden summerall. he had moved from texas the year before

and of course, kenzie instantly fell in love with him

along with all the girls in their grade

lauren herself didn't really find anything that interesting about him

he was too perfect; he was nice, handsome, polite, and very sociable

it's not like lauren could even have anything to say about him, because she needed to protect mackenzie from getting hurt

the hurt she got from losing her family, and hurt from getting bullied

there were always people there to try and bring her best friend down for no reason at all

and to make matters even worse, all their drama from middle school was about to get 10x worse then they could ever imagine
