Prologue - The Announcement

"Netflix to Release a New Original Series Based on the Mamma Mia Franchise"

          The past Wednesday, July 16th of 2018, Netflix announced the release of its brand new original series based on the successful musical franchise "Mamma Mia". 

           The series, which will be titled "Mamma Mia - The Story of Sky and Sophie", follows the story of how a young Sophie and Sky meet and learn about life together, cruising through the ups and downs of their journey. As the second movie of the Mamma Mia franchise the show will follow a pattern of prequel and sequel since we will be able to follow the life of an adult Sky and Sophie after the birth of their lovely son, Donny, as well. The show is said to be set on the idyllic greek island of Kalokairi and in England, where young Sophie and Sky meet while attending high school.   

            The choices for the cast are as amazing as the idea of the creation of a series based on the musical, which has been loved by everyone around the globe. Reprising their role as the leads Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper will continue playing the fan favourite couple of Sophie and Sky. Both have expressed their happiness and gratitude of being part of such a special project as Mamma Mia via Twitter last night. 

              Alongside these two familiar faces more of the original cast have been announced to play a role on the original series. Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski will appear on the show eventhough we are sad to inform you that their screentime will be kept to the minimal. Negotiations about Cher's appearance on the TV show are still on the run, so we are crossing our finger hoping we will see a bit more of Sophie's grandmother. Lily James together with Alexa Davies and Jessica Keenan Wynn will reprise their role as the young Donna and the Dynamos. 

           Playing the roles of the young couple will be Disney's alumni and favourite actors Sophie LeBlanc and Thomas Doherty, who are known for their roles in Disney's musical hit Descendants, Mal and Harry Hook. 

           Sophie LeBlanc is the daughter of award-winning actress and producer Jennifer Aniston and Top Gear's TV Host and actor Matt LeBlanc. The young star has already proven her worth as an established and lovable Youtuber/ vlogger and as a actress/ singer in the TV Hit of Descendants, where she playes the lead role of Mal, and in Agent's of Shield, in which she portrayed the character of young Ruby.  As for the young male lead, Thomas is also known for his roles on the musical Descendants, in which he feels the role of Captain Hook's son, Harry Hook, and on the British TV series The Lodge, where he playes on of the lead roles of Sean Matthews. 

          Realease date of the musical series has yet to be announced eventhough rumor has it that production of the show has already started.
