Here's my take on it:

Like the other mini covers/banners

Like the other mini covers/banners. This would work for a cast page or a quote or whatever you'd like.

Let's Begin.

You'll need these following apps or apps like them: Superimpose, Afterlight, and Phonto.

Step One.
Start off by going onto Superimpose and setting this black photo as your background:

Step Two.
This part isn't pictured, but's it's simple. So, for this cover I found photos of Zoë Kravitz that were from her Elle photoshoot. All plain backgrounds and so I gathered the ones that had the red background and placed one of them as my foreground.

I zoomed in on the red part to the point where it covers all of the black photo. Now the black photo is red. I then merged the photos, placed the photo of Zoë as the foreground again and placed it towards the edge like so:

You can add photos if you'd like, which I planned to do, but I decided not to.

Step Three.
Edit your photo as you please.

I lowered the exposure, added shadows, and added grain as well as the dusty effect.

I recommend choosing a color that goes with your photo. It's brings it all together. I also recommend lower the opacity so that it's sheer like so:
