"Will you let me give you a birthday?" Lan asks Wei softly.

Wei is startled out of his thoughts. He ignores the papers he has been fiddling with, adjusts his glasses and looks at Lan, who is sitting on a chair, opposite to his desk, in Wei's University office.

Wei swallows, "Why suddenly?"

Lan rolls the lollipop in his mouth and takes it out. It's not sudden. Lan has been thinking for quite a while but he doesn't say it.

Instead, he says, "You gave me the best birthday present last week. I was so happy. I hate giving and receiving gifts because I am not used to it but when it was you... I felt happy instead. Then I realized, I should give you a birthday gift as well, to show you how much you mean to me."

Wei stays silent.

Lan continues. He looks at Wei with soft, gentle, loving eyes and Wei doesn't know what he has done to deserve this kind of treatment.

"That's when it hit me. You don't have a birthday, do you?"

Wei shakes his head. He doesn't know his birth date from 10,000 years ago and things like time was never a thing or a concept on Dixing

Lan smiles. "How can I not celebrate you? Your birthday? Your birth is the reason my life is better. Your birth is the reason I am a better person. I am here, loved, protected, cared for and it's all because of you. How can I just let it be? How can I just let it go?"

Wei blushes lightly and fiddles with his glasses again.

Lan chuckles. He just wants to kiss Wei's forehead but he will hold back. He has more to say.

"It is going to be two years soon."

Wei finally opens his mouth and whispers, "You remember?"

Lan nods. It's the day when Wei first saw Lan here and recognized him as Kun Lun as Lan leaned out the window. Lan still remembers Wei's shock, his glances when he thought Lan didn't see - Lan had seen it all - and the lingering touches after the handshake.

"That's the day my life started changing. I didn't know you, I didn't remember you, I even suspected you but it all started then. It is verymeaningful to me and I am sure it's to you as well. So I thought, it will be a perfect birth date for you. What do you think?"

Wei doesn't say anything and Lan wonders if he has said anything wrong. So, Lan continues to put his foot in his mouth, he is flustered. He wants Wei to be happy, he doesn't want Wei to misunderstand. Lan isn't teasing Wei, is that not coming across?

Lan continues to ramble, "Do you want to choose something else instead? I have thought of other dates as well, like when I discovered you were the Envoy, when we fought Zun and lived - including that shitty brat Zun who is alive and kicking and actually strangely creepily nice now for a change - when my eyesight returned after I became temporarily blind because of the artifacts and you were the first person I saw..."

Wei rolls his eyes, gets up, pushes his chair back and leans across his desk and places a finger on Lan's lips to silence him. Lan is glad, he has panicked enough and Wei has taken pity on him.

Wei smiles, "I love it. It's perfect."

Lan kisses Wei's fingers who in turn removes them from Lan's lips hastily and sits down on his chair, adjusting his tie, looking embarrassed and away from Lan.

Lan teases Wei. "Which one? Me, right? I am perfect, right?"

Wei snorts, "The day we met, two years ago. It's perfect."

Lan nods. "I will make preparations." Wei doesn't like the sound of this.

Wei sighs, but before he can say anything, Lan interrupts him. "It won't be anything grand. It will be special, just for the two of us."

Lan stands up and pulls Wei in for a kiss.

Everyday for them is special, especially when they are together always and will be together from now on, as well.
