Chrysalis, poem

My dear readers, it feels like ages since I posted on Wattpad. This is a poem that was inspired last night at 1:00 AM by writergrl98's goodbye to wattpad on account of time constraints. I actually wrote it out on my phone and am now posting it by the grace of one of my colleagues, who lent me her laptop.

I may not be a mother yet, but the feelings of a parent are all too clear to me at times.

CHRYSALIS

The shape of your footsteps

Mocks me from the ground,

Reminding me they’ll fall

On my paths no more;

Soft breezes tease me on

And spread your scent around,

Despite knowing you’ll come

Back to me no more.

And yet I can’t resent this change,

Since your future demands it now –

This change

That morphs you from shoot to tree,

That sets your cloistered footsteps free,

That teaches you to swim

Against each tide,

That comes when the world beyond

Wants you at its side...

So go forth and seize

The brush you’re handed,

Exchange your pencils

For the palettes of life;

Let your joyous thoughts colour

The very air you breathe,

Paint the infinite skies with

The glowing oils of time:

But

The questing hands that tugged my heart,

The tiny feet that trailed me once,

The simple strokes I’d loved so much

Are

In simple words,

No more.
