Chapter 4

"O-okay...thank you very much." I end the call quickly. I feel my cheek wet...A tear?

I can't sleep...I can't stop thinking about Kade, he finally came back. I'm happy, I really am but...now that I know he's back, he'll only bring trouble.

I shake last nights thoughts away and get inside the Uber to take me to the hospital.

When I get to the front desk, I see a bunch of nurses trying to calm down a patient who was going wild and crazy. He's kicking, yelling, running away from them.

"Can I help you?" I turn to see the front desk lady, who has a face of boredom.

"Yes I'm looking for Kade Khione, he's my brother" grinning at her.

"Mr. Khione?" She looks towards the guy who I saw earlier.

Oh My God! I run towards the nurses, who have a difficult time to calm him down.

Other nurses came running towards me, holding me back. "Miss, you need to get away, he can hurt you" the nurses are still trying to push me away from him...my brother.

"NO! HE'S MY BROTHER!-" I keep fighting.

"Devina??" Kade asks and begins to calm down, the nurses grab him like he would do something harmful to me. I frown, "Let him go." Which to my surprise they do, but still are on guard.

I run to him and hug him hard...like if I had never hugged a person before...he begins to cry in my arms.

"Yes! It's me! Kade...I'm here" I pull away from him, but he won't let go.

"Kade...let go please" I whisper gently to him, but he doesn't budge.

"Kade let go, you're hurting me." This time I have my voice stronger, the nurses now trying to get him off me. He finally lets go.

"NOO LET ME GO!! I NEED HER, I WON'T FAIL HER AGAIN!! DEVINA!! PLEASE DON'T LET THEM TAKE ME!! PLEASE!! I BEG YOU, MY SISTER!" He screams down the hallway...I didn't even notice I stood there...doing nothing, letting them take him away from me I'm so sorry Kade...

"Miss you'll have to wait until he calms down, it was probably the medicine we gave him, we're sorry." With that, the nurse leaves and I feel my body weaken.

I feel something or someone shaking me...and a voice.

"How are you feeling Miss?" It's the same nurse who told me that they were sorry about Kade...I think to...wait! Kade?! No, it must've been a dream...or not?

I see that I'm in one of the hospital rooms.

"Why am I here?" I declare

"Oh, you don't remember? Well, you passed out while you were getting up to demand again to see your brother, we did some few tests to see if you're okay, but your not." So it wasn't a dream...god what am I gonna do now?

"What do you mean?" I ask, confused.

"Well you are very low on your vitamins, looks like you haven't been resting and eating enough, you're really stressed out." She says looking at her medical paperwork...probably my tests she said about.

"Oh...but Kade? Is he okay?? Can I see him now?" I ask. She looks at me as if she feels pity for me.

"Are you feeling better?" I nod "Get changed and I'll meet you outside." She closes the door.

I get changed quickly and open the door.

"I'm ready"

"Follow me then," We walked a few stairs up to the third floor. "I'm not allowed to leave you alone with the patient because he might be a threat- " Anger starts to boil inside of me.

"He's no threat to me" I give her a cold look.

"Of course, I'll wait outside"

I open the door and walk towards Kade, who's laying on the bed. He has his eyes closed, thinks he's asleep. I sigh and sit next to him, holding his hand.

"Devina..I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-" He mumbles, barley opening his eyes.

"Shh it's okay...we'll talk when we get home okay?" He only nods. I kiss his forehead and let go of his hand.

"I'll be back. I just have to talk to the nurse, so that you can come with me." I grin at him and leave the room.

"I want to take him home," I say to the nurse

"You can't not yet-"

"No! I won't take no for a damn answer alright?! He needs me! And he'll be better if he's with me."

"Miss...you need to hear me, you don't even know where the police found him."

"Wait, what?" That's true I didn't even ask her about his whereabouts.

"He was found in an abandoned car doing drugs, 2 days ago, though he had passed out that's why he's here or else he would've been in jail. The police found his file and you're the only one on his emergency file."

"So then, is he going to jail?" My heart's already breaking.

"No, he isn't" I look up quickly, surprised "The police officer who arrived there first ran a background check and believes he deserves a second chance. He took matters into his own hands."

I frowned gently "Wait...how do you know all those details?"

"That police man is my husband and he's the sheriff of this town, so everyone trusts him. Look, I'll let him go with you if you answer me this question, do you have a younger siblings that are living with you?" Hazel...could she be in danger?

"No, I do not, it's only Kade and I"

"Don't lie to me! I've seen your background information and Kade's too...I'll let him go with you but hear me out, if I ever hear that he did something to your younger sibling, I'll hunt him down...both of you."

"Is that a threat you just said to me?"

"Oh of course not, I would never threat my patients, it's just a warning." With that, she leaves and gives me some printed papers about Kade and I, and his medicine. The other nurses help Kade get ready to leave. Both of us get inside the taxi not saying anything until we get home. We have some serious talking to do today Kade. We get into my apartment and he closes the door behind him.

"Where is Hazel?" Kade asks.

"She's with the babysitter, and I'm supposed to be at school today but instead I'm with you." God, I was afraid he had forgotten about Hazel. Looks like he's more stable. I should talk to him now.

"Devina, I know you have questions you want answers to but right now is not the time, all you need to know is that I'm out of the gang."

I stay quiet, bringing back memories. "The same one?" He nods "Are they following you Kade?" He stays quiet, avoiding my eyes. "Kade are they following you?! Answer me!" Raising my voice and desperate for an answer.

"Yes they are, they're following me, I put you all in danger...I'm very sorry." He begins to sob and my eyes widen.

"So that's the only reason you came back?! Like all those other years?! You haven't changed, have you?! You want to use me again and then leave when you feel like it!! Well, guess what Kade I'm not the same anymore alright?!!"

"Well, neither am I Devina!! I've changed!" A laugh comes out of me. I can't believe it! Here I was feeling pity for him earlier.

"Right! That's what you said last time too and what have you changed uh?! The way you manipulate me!"

"Devina...look just give me one more chance, please."

"No! I'm tired of you!...Fuck y-"

Ring ring ring I walk towards the phone.

"Hello?" My voice is still full of anger, then I start realizing who it is. Ugh...
