ch.2 - realization

It has only been a few days since I have appeared in this world. Apparently right now I am not even in my old dimension. The sheer importance of this being a magical world already overthrows any possibility of this being the world I grew up in. During the last few days most I did was to sleep or simply fall out of reality. 

It seems that in this condition I can only maintain a clear mind for 2 hours a day at maximum, which has led to me not having much information at hand just yet, but deep down I know this is a good thing. After all, just imagine being trapped in a newborn's body with an adult's mind for a long time. There is no doubt that a person might go crazy.

That aside, from what I have managed to know by now is that right now this world is in an era of monarchy. Everything is quite typical starting from the order of ranks and ending with awful taxes throughout each country. My family is quite well off....well that's an understatement, REALLY well off to be fair, my father, Richard is the duke, and apparently one of two dukes of the kingdom. 

There can only ever be 2 dukes in their royal kingdom, this has been a tradition that has been kept all the way from the times of this country being founded. Considering the duke holds the highest authority after the king and that I am a firstborn son and therefore an heir, I was pretty much born with a golden spoon. Still not sure how that information makes me feel.....

[time skip: eight months later}

As time passes, it seems that I can stay conscious for longer and longer during the day. Now I can be a part of what's happening around me for almost a quarter of a full day-night cycle! Quite some progress I would say. Since I have finally trained my limbs enough to be able to crawl decently, I head off to the operation which no one in my place would disregard. Finally able to visit the library and get answers to the questions which piled up! 

With the insights from these 9 months I now know maids' schedules not any worse than the head maid does, only when it comes to them attending me though. It is funny to see so many maids flocking around a small child all the time, I guess that's what being an aristocrat brings. 

Entertained by my thoughts, I finally reached the library after about 10 minutes of trouble. Crawling is not the quickest or the most painless way, but it is the only one I can use for now. First things first, I had to scan the huge ass library, with some books clearly out of my reach. I have still managed to find what I came here for. 

The first was the basic magic theory and second was the history and geography of the Rossete kingdom, which was so thick that there was not even any hope of me being able to lift it, I could only have it remain thrown at the floor while I list through it. As a feeble child, I didn't even attempt to bring anything to my room, why when someone would most likely discover it while cleaning anyways. Instead I opted for absorbing as much information as possible in a short amount of time.

Due to the language here being almost completely identical to English, I could read with little effort. According to the book there were three kinds of magic: common, rare and legendary. Common was: water, fire, earth and air, rare: lightning and ice, and legendary: light and darkness. There was also one epic grade magic which has only ever appeared in myths, that was space-time magic. People can have various magic affinities, theoretically everyone can practice and use magic, but someone without affinity practicing fire magic for a long time will have hundreds if not thousands of times less progress than someone with an affinity only just starting off.

After going through a part of the second book Louis got to know a lot of new things about this world. Apparently this world had a leveling system similar to the rpg games from his past life. When you kill a monster, perform artisan or production work, or even just do some basic tasks, you get experience points which are needed to level up. When a person gains one level they will get 3 free stats which they can distribute as they like.
