The Family Business

All About Her

Roman's POV
            A month had gone by since the holidays and we everything had gone back to normal. I've had to leave a couple of times, but only for a couple of days. It was usually during the middle of the week while Janae was busy so it wasn't as bad. I had come back last night accidently waking Janae up. I felt bad, but I guess I was back just in time because she pounced on me as soon as I got in bed. We went several rounds before we both fell asleep. Then when her alarm went off at 5 she pulled me out of bed to shower with her. After the shower we found our way back to our bed and just laid there in our towels. She was straddling me and kissing down my neck. She sat up on me and sat up on my elbows. "What has got into you? I mean trust me when I say I do not mind at all." I smiled at her.
   "Well Christina and Tyler found out they're having a boy and baby fever kicked in like hell this week." She made sad face.
    "Hey it'll happen. Don't worry your pretty little head. We will get our little biscotto and he or she will be perfect." I kissed her forehead. She smiled the checked the time on her phone. She jumped off of me and ran into our closet realizing she's running late. I laughed and got out of bed and slipped some shorts on. I walked downstairs and made her some tea since she stopped drinking coffee for now. I put it in her travel cup and went to the front door. I opened it for her and held her keys also. I heard her run down the stairs with her bag. I laughed watching her slip her wedges on. "I love you and I'll see you later." She kissed me and grabbed her tea and coffee out of my hands. "I love you too, have a good day." I shut the door behind her. I decided to go lay back down before I decided to check in with my dad.
            I was woken up by my doorbell and rolled out of bed. I grabbed my phone and went downstairs. I opened it and saw Tristan and Gianni. "I would hate to ban you from my house already Tristan." I walked away from my brother and cousin.
   "Hey if it wasn't for me Gianni would have just let himself in. Did you know that he has key to your place?" Tristan followed me in.
   "It's only for emergencies. I'm about to take his key away and give it to you though. Where's Angelo you usually bring him on your bullshit adventures." I sat in my recliner.
   "He went to have lunch with Nadia. Ever since dad said he doesn't have to come with us anymore he's been spending all his time with her." Gianni flopped on my couch.
   "Watch your shoes Gianni. I have no problem with it. Shit I wish I could do that and not have to leave every 10 minutes." I laughed.
   "You two sound jealous." Tristan sat on the other couch.
   "I wish I could stay home with my wife all the time instead of having to leave at any given moment anytime day or night." I looked at them. "Gianni just misses having someone to play with during the day." I shook my head.
   "Yeah, when we don't got shit to do all you do is sleep or spend time with Nae. If Zariah is at school Angelo will hang out with me." Gianni laughed.
   "Speaking of Nae how did she take it when you told he about you being promoted to capo after your dad?" Tristan asked. I didn't answer him. "You did tell her right?"
   "You dumbass you didn't tell your wife?" Gianni stared at me.
   "Maybe if you two didn't pass the baton on to me I wouldn't have to worry about telling her because it wouldn't be my job." I got annoyed.
   "I bowed out 12 years ago. Bobby was next in line, but he didn't make it." Gianna shrugged.
   "Yeah my marriage fell apart bro, being capo was not worth losing Rita and my son any more than I already have. The only other options are you or Alex." Tristan shrugged.
   "You can always have Angelo break the news to her. We all know he's her favorite. She might take it better from him." Gianni joked as usual.
   "Yeah and I'll do it in song too. She can't be mad at all if it's done in song." Angelo walked in my living room. "I'm sorry, I let myself in. The door was unlocked. I locked it though."
   "It's all good Angelo. How was lunch with Nadia?" I asked.
   "It was good. She can't wait to see Paris again." He blushed.
   "Are you going to start bringing her around the family more Angelo?" Tristan asked and Angelo started laughing. "What's so funny?"
   "I really care about Nadia I really do why would I ruin that by bring her into our mess? I think I'll live in my own little world for a while. At least I don't have to worry about the whole capo thing." He shrugged.
   "You got me there. When did you find out that you were supposed to be the capo in training Gianni?" I asked my older brother.
   "The same day I found out that Dani was pregnant with Z. I told her right after I found out though. She was mad but I let her know I'd still be there for her and her daughter no matter what title I held and that wouldn't change." Gianni was a goofball, but he doesn't play about family.
   "I told Rita before we got married just so she knew what she was signing up for before we made the big jump." Tristan jumped in.
   "You've known since October. It's time to tell her Roman. That's not something to be taken lightly." I looked at my brothers and cousin. I knew they were right about me needing to tell her, but not while we try for a baby. That's not something she needs to worry about now.
            It was around 2 in afternoon and I was pulling up to my in-laws house. Christina and I were meeting up with Diana to plan a surprise birthday party for Janae. Her birthday was in two weeks and I wanted to make it special for her. I knocked on the door and I heard Diana yell for me to come in. I walked in and up the stairs that lead to their living room. Christina was sitting on the floor looking at what I think was decoration samples. "Hey baby how have you been?" Diana from one of the rooms and walked past me and joined Christina on the floor. "I'm good, why are you guys on the floor?" I asked confused.
   "I work better when I can spread everything out." Christina didn't bother to look up.
   "Janae told me you're having a son, congratulations." I joined them on the floor.
   "Thank you so much Roman." She smiled looking through the samples. "What colors are we going with for the party?"
   "I was thinking gold and white. That would go with the lights better right? It would make the back yard look warmer or whatever." I said looking at everything on the floor.
   "She's been having you watch HGTV with her again hasn't she Roman?" Christina laughed at me as I nodded. "Alright so something like this?" She picked her phone up and flashed me a picture. I nodded at what she showed me. "Alright that was easy. What are we going to do for food? That's very important Roman."
   "Calm down Christina, I'm in charge of the food. Roman you placed an order for the cake, the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, and the cookies from Insomnia right? I swear my baby does not play when it comes to here cookies." Diana laughed.
   "Yeah I did that before I got here. The will be ready that afternoon. The bakery for the cookies said to call and hour before I pick up so they can be fresh and Insomnia Cookies pretty much said the same thing. We are covered on that front. Have you figured out how you are going to keep her busy while we set up the house Momma D?" I asked looking as she wrote all the information about the food down.
   "Your mom and I are going to treat her to get her nails and toes done. Then we're going to come back her for hair and makeup." She smiled.
   "Alright cool, well I'm going to come over early in the day so I can help set everything up. Dontae said he'll handle the music. He's going to come when I do so he can set up all the speakers." Christina looked at her IPad that had a to-do list on it.
   "Angelo said he'll be over to help set up. He wants you to send him everything he could do for the party. He also said you can stash the decorations at his house." The two women nodded.
   "I'm sending the invitations out later on after I finish them. On the guest list I have Gianni, Bella, Angelo, Nadia, Leena, Tyler, Ethan, Jade, Alex, Allie, Dontae, Darian, Tristan, Rita, and Dominic." I felt every muscle in my body tense up at the sound of that name.
   "I have the same list dear. That's good." Diana said. The two women went on talking and dividing up task between us. I barely heard anything they said though. Good thing Christina always wrote everything down and emailed it to me. My mind was focused on Dominic. Why the hell would he be invited to my wife's party? I know him, Christina, and Janae used to be friends, but he is also Janae's ex. I don't want to sit across from someone my wife used to fuck with. I plan on being on my best behavior for now, but only because it's her birthday and I don't want to ruin that.
