Nineteenth part

Archie left and I went into the living room and sat down next to Arizona.
"I hope you know you're an idiot"
"I'm well aware"
"Why are you letting him play with your feelings?"
"He's not"
"Really?"
"It's not the same. I'm not saying that I don't love him, I just don't love him like I used to. I'm with Jacob and he knows that"
"Are you?"
"Am I what?"
"With Jacob"
"Of course. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Because you haven't talked to him since he walked in on you comforting Archie"
"I've tried calling him but he's busy with working"
"Sure"
"It's true. And if you now wanna know I'm going to surprise him at his job today after school"
"That will not end well plus you're only doing it cause Archie told you to do it"
"No, I've been planning on going there for a few days, I've just not had the time" I stood up and walked into my room. I got dressed and ready before leaving for my first day in college. The first day wasn't that special though. They mostly showed us around campus and the day ended early. I checked my phone and I had only gotten a text from Arizona.
"Archie's back at work, wonder what made him wanna go back😏"
I texted her back.
"He wanted to go back, I had nothing to do with it"
I walked to my newly bought car and started driving to Jacob's work. I was super nervous, but not about seeing Jacob. I was nervous about accidently running into my dad. I walked into the big building that was 'Lodge Industries'. I had no idea where I was going so I walked up to the front desk.
"Hi, excuse me, I'm here to see Jacob Benson"
"Name?" I heard on her voice that she probably never wanted to sit at the front desk.
"Veronica Lo... Delgado. Veronica Delgado"
"I'm sorry, you're not scheduled to meet with Mr. Benson right now" 'Mr. Benson', it made him sound fancier than an assistant.
"I know, I'm his girlfriend" I had no idea if I still were his girlfriend, but it was worth a try.
"His girlfriend?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Nothing, he just doesn't seem like boyfriend material. He works all the time you know"
"I know, that's why I'm here to see him"
"Just wait here and I'll go see if he's busy"
"Okay thank you" she walked away and I sat down on a chair. I started looking through phone just to have something to do.
"Excuse me, do you by any chance know where Sandra is?" I looked up. I recognized him immediately, he was my dad after all, but his expression told me he didn't recognize me.
"Yeah, she went looking for Jacob"
"Can I ask why?"
"I'm Jacob's girlfriend, I'm here to meet him"
"Well Sandra should know he's out to get coffee right now. Follow me to my office, he should be right back" I hesitated for a second.
"Right, maybe I should introduce myself. I'm Hiram Lodge"
"You own this company?" I asked trying to avoid saying who I was. I obviously knew he owned the company, but I had to say something.
"Yes I do. It was supposed to be a family thing, but things didn't work out as planned"
"What happened"
"Let's just say there were some trust issues" I nodded at him. We walked to the elevator and he pressed the button for floor twelve which was the highest floor. Of course the boss had his office at the top. We got out and walked into his office. I sat down on the chair across from him.
"So how did you meet Jacob?"
"I met him a year ago when I was flying back to Riverdale"
"Riverdale? Do you live there?"
"Yeah I do, lovely little town"
"It is. I used to live there a few years back until me and my wife got divorced"
"I'm sorry. Do you know what your wife is doing now? Maybe I know her"
"Her name is Hermione Lodge. I hate to admit it but I do know what she's doing. Ever since I divorced her I haven't stopped checking up on her. She is raising our daughter Veronica and working-"
"Veronica?" we both turned around and Jacob stood there with coffee.
"Yes, Veronica Lodge is my daughter. I'm just seeing if your girlfriend knows her, they look the same age"
"Yes, my girlfriend. Can I talk to you outside?" I nodded and stood up. We walked into a little office a few doors down from Hiram's.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"He didn't recognize me"
"So what, you're just gonna pretend you're not his daughter?"
"No I'll tell him, just not now"
"You get that he will be extremely mad at you then"
"I know, it just doesn't feel like the right time"
"What are you even doing here?"
"I came here to talk to you. I want to explain"
"Please explain why Archie has been staying at your house for the past few days when it should be me"
"How do you know he's been staying there all week? Are you stalking me?!"
"No, Arizona texted me every time he had spent the night. Have you cheated on me?"
"No, I promise you I haven't"
"Then why have you been hanging out with him and not me?"
"Because you didn't pick up your damn phone!"
"I've been working!"
"Then maybe it's your fault I haven't been with you!"
"Don't blame this on me. You said you two were over and that you were ready to be serious with me. Then you go and start to hang out with your ex, what am I supposed to think?!"
"You're supposed to trust me!"
"How can I trust you when I know you rather be with him?! I know I'm just your backup plan!"
"That's not true Jacob. I really like you and I need you in my life. Archie and I were over. His dad died and he needed someone to talk to, but that's over now. You can come to my place after work and we'll spend the whole night together, okay?"
"Okay. But only if you tell your dad who you are"
"I can't"
"Yes you can. I believe in you" he grabbed my shoulders and kissed my forehead.
"See you later" he said practically kicking me out of his office. I slowly walked back to Hiram's office. I knocked on the door and heard him tell me to come in. I opened the door and walked in.
"Ohh, you! What did you say your name was again, sweetie?"
"Veronica, Veronica Lodge"
