Passing the Time
They wait. The nurse gives you pills in a short paper cup, the kind you used to fill with ketchup. Your sister gives you a wig. It's a great excuse to become a blonde. Friends wonder if you care who hooked up last weekend in Brittany's basement. Your brother constructs another set of train tracks on your tray. You tell your parents that the daffodils and balloons help. Really.
They wait together for you to turn a corner alone.
