Since home is where the heart is
My home is far away
My heart is in the meadow
Where I shed tears and lay
I left it there
On rough damp ground
Among bird berries and fern
To don my life jacket
And ride the Gator to the wharf
I'm with my heart
A few weeks each year
From late June to mid July
And I am complete
The air is sweet
Although it's salty and moist
I run and laugh and play
With my cousins
And we revel in every new day
Whether the sun is hot and we become fish
Or it's freezing and wet
So we pile in the car and get Timmy's
We like our Tim's
As burn-your-mouth cocoa
And a box of vanilla dip donuts
And I like my hair
When it's knotted with salt
On the boat, blowing 'round my shoulders
On the first of July
We go to the Legion
And the neighbors say "The Lindsays are here!"
We wait for a while
And they give us a seat
French Toast for me
And I'd love a cup of tea
With plenty of sugar and cream
And when we leave
In mid July
They pull me into the car
While I cry
And we drive up the Cove
Over potholes and gravel
On this old road
As the grey sky cries
'Cause I leave
But once we're on the highway
When tears pool in my lap
The sky splits open
And golden light shines
Through raindrops on our windsheild
And it could be from Angus
Or Heika and Gretel
Or Nur and Ethel
Or all
But I know it's from Chester
And all those who love it
And it says
"Good bye"
And
"We love you"
