"Sugar is bad for you hun. Maybe you should find something else to eat."
I stare at my basket and look at the various sweets, which unsurprisingly is a lot. The old woman next to me glares at my basket before shaking her head and continuing her shopping.
"My bad." I say to myself. "Didn't know my shopping fell under your responsibility."
Wanting to go home, I head over to the produce and look for pomegranates. Grandma loves them. It's the only fruit she will eat.
I pick one up and turn it over in my hands before sticking it in a bag and looking for another good one.
"Hi. I don't believe we've met."
I whirl around to meet the voice behind me and see the man who steals my flowers for his brother. I laugh a little and he smiles in return.
"We haven't properly met." He says before sticking his hand out. I take his hand and shove my basket to my hip. "Archer Larson."
"Maya Jones."
"It's nice to actually know your name." He says before making his way to the other side of me. "You like pomegranates?"
"Uh yeah."
"Not really much of a pomegranate person myself. I don't really understand the appeal." He says as he picks one up and twirls it in his hand.
"You're one of those people who don't like fruits aren't you?" I question, a smirk forming on my face.
"Hate 'em."
"But you are one for flowers." I point out, my eyes catching the bouquet of yellow sunflowers in his cart.
He looks down at the flowers and takes a dramatic breath before throwing his hands out in front of him.
"I know I'm just a sucker for pretty things." He announces. He then looks up at me and flashes me a dazzling smile.
"Ha ha." I say before stepping away from the pomegranates. I hear the wheels from his cart squeal in protest as he whips it around. And follows me, jumping on it like it's a scooter so he can catch up.
"Where are you going?" He asks as he reaches me.
"Home I thought. But if you keep following me I might be stuck here for a while longer." I say as I head into the self checkout line.
"Well if you're not busy with all of your candy," Of course he noticed all the candy. "How about we go some place and talk?"
"First of all, do not judge my sweet tooth, and second," I pause as a smile finds it's way into my face. "what would we be talking about?"
"Oh you know, your thoughts on outer space, the zombie apocalypse." He offers as he sets his elbow on the edge of his cart and his head in his hand. "And we could also talk about candy." He mumbles, eyeing the several boxes of sweets in my basket.
I scoff and wander the produce section, looking for anything else I might need.
"I don't know. I need to get home. I have things to do."
